With Retouch, you can remove part of an AI image. This is useful when a generated image is perfect apart from one or two details you'd like to remove.

For example, in the images below, we have an AI image of an armchair in a room. There is a picture on the wall (1). With Retouch, you can draw over the picture (2) and the AI will remove it and redraw over the space as if the picture was never there (3).

If you are using the iPhone, iPad, or Android version of Photoroom, you can only use Retouch on an existing design. It is available in the Layer settings. For instructions, see Remove unnwanted objects with the Retouch tool.

On the Web App, you can use Retouch:

To use Retouch to remove part of an AI Image during the creation of AI images:

  1. Log in to the web app at app.photoroom.com.

  2. Choose the workspace you want to work in, for example, your personal workspace.

  3. Select AI Images.

  4. Choose the type of image you want to create from the list. If you don't see the type of image you want, select Create any image.

  5. Use the Size option to choose the dimensions of the image.

  6. Use the Style option to choose a type of styling, such as Hyper-realistic rendering or Impressionist painting.

  7. Enter a prompt to describe the image you want the AI to create. For tips on creating prompts, see Tips on creating AI Image prompts.

  8. Select Generate.

Photoroom generates 4 AI images. Select the image you want to use.

Alternatively, position the cursor over an AI Image and then select its dotted menu. Select Generate 4 variations to create 4 more AI images using the same prompt.

You could also enter a new prompt at the bottom and select Generate to create 4 new AI images.

  9. When you have selected an AI image, select Retouch.

  10. Set the brush size and draw over the area you want to remove. Photoroom removes the area and redraws it. You may need to draw over the area several times to get the result you want.

  11. Select Confirm.
Photoroom displays your chosen image in the editor.

  12. [Optional] Use the editor to make further changes.

To learn about using the editor, see Introduction to editing in Photoroom.

  13. [Optional] Select the Download icon to download a copy of your design as an image file. Enter a name for the image file and then download it.

Download icon. It looks like a downward arrow pointing at a tray.

  14. Select the Home icon to save your design.
