Learn how to create a new AI Image based on an image in your AI Image history

When you use the AI Images tool, Photoroom remembers the AI images you have previously generated in your session. You can use them as a shortcut to creating new AI images that are based on the same prompt, but with some changes.

For example, if you had an AI image of a diamond ring in your history, you could use Describe a change to generate a similar image of a ruby ring instead. It is quicker than recreating the entire prompt for the image.

Two images side-by-side. The left image is a diamond ring on a silk background. The right image is a ruby ring on a silk background.

Note: The Describe a change feature is called Change something on the Web App. It is not yet available on the Android version of Photoroom.

On iPhone and iPad

To use Describe a change to create a new AI image based on a previously generated one:

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone)

  1. On the Create page, select All tools.

  2. Select the AI Images tool that you want to use, for example, Product Photography. If you don't see the type you want, select the See more link to see the full list.

  3. Look at the history of AI Images and find an image that you want to use as the basis for your new image.

  4. Select the image's dotted menu ( ... ) and then select Describe a change.

  5. Enter a description of the changes you want as a prompt. You don't need to describe the entire image again as Photoroom will use the prompt from the original image. You only need to describe the changes you want. In our example, "ruby ring" was enough to transform the image of a diamond ring into a ruby ring.

  6. Select the new image.

  7. [Optional] Select:

    • Remove background to remove the background and only use the foreground layer. If you remove the background, Photoroom will give it a transparent background that you can keep or replace in the editor.

    • Change something to make further changes by adding extra details in a prompt.

  8. Select Use image when you are happy with the image and want to turn it into a design.

  9. This step only applies if you removed the background. Choose a template for the background, such as White or Black. Alternatively, you can create an AI background.

  10. Use the editor to make changes in the same way as any other design, for example, you could insert graphics or add text.

To learn about editing images, see the editing articles.

  11. [Optional] Select Export. Use the export settings to download your design as an image file or share with other people.

  12. Close the editor. Photoroom saves your design automatically.

On Web App

On the Web App, use Change something to create a new AI image based on a previously generated one:

  1. Log in to the web app at app.photoroom.com.

  2. Select the workspace that you want to work in.

  3. Select AI Tools.

  4. Select the type of image you want to work on. Photoroom displays a prompt and a history of your previous AI images (of the selected type).

  5. Position the cursor over the AI image you want to change and select its dotted menu ( ... ).

  6. Select Change something.

  7. Enter a description of the changes you want the AI to make to the image and then select Change.

Photoroom creates a new image with the changes you requested.

  8. Select the new image.

  9. [Optional] Use:

    • Remove background to remove the background and only use the foreground layer. If you remove the background, Photoroom will give it a transparent background that you can keep or replace in the editor.

    • Generate 4 variations to get the AI to make 4 more versions of the image using the same prompt.

    • Change something to make further changes by adding extra details in a prompt.

    • Retouch to remove part of the image (see Remove part of an AI image with Retouch ).

    • Resize to change the dimensions of the image.

  10. When you are happy with the image, select Use this image.

  11. Use the editor to make changes in the same way as any other design, for example, you could insert graphics or add text.

To learn about editing images, see the editing articles.

  12. [Optional] Select the Download icon to download the design as an image file. Enter a name for the file and choose a file type and then select Download.

Download icon. It is an arrow pointing down at a tray.

  13. Select Home to save your design.
