Replace a layer

Learn how to swap a layer for a different photo, logo, shape or image.

Photoroom's Replace feature lets you swap a layer in a design with other content, such as an AI-generated image, a shape, another image, or a graphic. For example, you could swap out a product photo for a logo.

On iPhone and iPad

To replace a layer on the iPhone or iPad version of Photoroom:

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content.

  2. Select the design that contains the layer you want to replace.

  3. Select the layer that you want to replace. Photoroom displays the layer's settings.

  4. Select Replace.

  5. Use the options to choose the replacement layer. There are options for replacing the layer with an AI-generated image, a new photo, a design from your Brand Kit, shapes, graphics, and more.

    When you choose a replacement layer, Photoroom removes the selected layer on the design and adds your replacement layer in its place.


On Android

To replace a layer on the Android version of Photoroom:

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content.

  2. Select the design that contains the layer you want to replace.

  3. Select the layer that you want to replace. Photoroom displays the layer's settings.

  4. Select Replace.

  5. Use the options to choose the replacement layer. There are options for replacing the layer with an AI-generated image, a new photo, a design from your Brand Kit, shapes, graphics, and more.

    When you choose a replacement layer, Photoroom removes the selected layer on the design and adds your replacement layer in its place.


On Web App

On the Web App (desktop) version of Photoroom, the two most common ways to replace a layer are:

  • Replace a layer by using the context menu

  • Replace a layer by using the layer settings.

Replace a layer by using the context menu

To use the context menu to replace a layer:

  1. Log in to Photoroom at app.photoroom.com.

  2. Select the workspace that contains the design you want to edit.

  3. Select Designs and then select the design you want to edit.

  4. Right-click on the layer you want to replace to display the context menu.

  5. Select Replace.

  6. Use the options in the sidebar to choose the replacement layer. There are options for replacing the layer with an AI-generated image, a new photo, a design from your Brand Kit, shapes, graphics, and more.

    When you choose a replacement layer, Photoroom removes the selected layer on the design and adds your replacement layer in its place.

Replace a layer by using the layer settings

To use the layer settings to replace a layer:

  1. Log in to Photoroom at app.photoroom.com.

  2. Select the workspace that contains the design you want to edit.

  3. Select Designs and then select the design you want to edit.

  4. Select the layer you want to replace to display its layer options in the sidebar.

  5. Select Replace.

  6. Use the options in the sidebar to choose the replacement layer. There are options for replacing the layer with an AI-generated image, a new photo, a design from your Brand Kit, shapes, stickers, and more.

    When you choose a replacement layer, Photoroom removes the selected layer on the design and adds your replacement layer in its place.
