Learn how to create a mirror image of a layer (horizontal flip or vertical flip)

Photoroom's Flip horizontal and Flip vertical features make it easy to create a mirror image of an object layer. So if your product is facing the wrong way in a photo or it is upside-down, it's a simple job to fix it.

On iPhone and iPad

To flip an object layer horizontally or vertically on the iPhone or iPad version of Photoroom:

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content and then select the design you want to edit.

    Alternatively, you can create a new design and edit that instead. For details, see Create your first Photoroom design.

  2. Select the layer you want to flip. You can select it on the design or select Layers and then select the appropriate layer.

  3. Select Transform.

  4. Select:

    • Horizontal to flip the layer on the horizontal axis. This is a left-right mirror image.

    • Vertical to flip the layer on the vertical axis. This is a top-bottom mirror image.

  5. Select Done.

  6. [Optional] Use the other editing settings to make further changes to the design.

  7. [Optional] Select Export. Use the export settings to download the design as an image file and share the design with other people.

  8. Select the cross icon ( X ) to close the editor and save your design.


On Android

To flip an object layer horizontally or vertically on the iPhone or iPad version of Photoroom:


  1. On the Create page, select Your Content.

  2. Select the workspace that contains the design you want to edit.

  3. Select the design you want to edit.

    Alternatively, you can create a new design and edit that instead. For details, see Create your first Photoroom design.

  4. Select the layer you want to flip. You can select it on the design or select Layers and then select the appropriate layer.

  5. Select Transform.

  6. Select:

    • Horizontal to flip the layer on the horizontal axis. This is a left-right mirror image.

    • Vertical to flip the layer on the vertical axis. This is a top-bottom mirror image.

  7. Select Done.

  8. [Optional] Use the other editing settings to make further changes to the design.

  9. [Optional] Select Export. Use the export settings to download the design as an image file and share the design with other people.

  10. Select the back icon to close the editor and save your design.


On Web App

To flip an object layer on the Web App version of Photoroom:

  1. Log on to Photoroom at app.photoroom.com.

  2. Select the workspace that you want to work in.

  3. Select Designs and then select the design you want to edit.

    Alternatively, you can create a new design and edit that instead. For details, see Create your first Photoroom design.

  4. Select the object layer that you want to flip. You can select it on the design or left-click in the gray background of the editor to display the layers in the side panel. Then select the relevant layer in the side panel.

  5. Use the Flip options to change the object layer:

    Flip options. Left button is labelled 1 and is flip horizontal. Right button is labelled 2 and is flip vertical.


    • Flip horizontal (1) to flip the layer on the horizontal axis. This is a left-right mirror image.

    • Flip vertical (2) to flip the layer on the vertical axis. This is a top-bottom mirror image.

  6. [Optional] Use the other editing settings to make further changes to the design.

  7. [Optional] Select the download icon to download the design as an image file. Enter a name for the file and choose the image file type and then select Download.

    Download icon is a downward-facing arrow over an in tray.
  8. Select the Home icon to exit the editor and save your design.

    Home icon is a house.
