Each layer of a design has Adjust settings that you can use to change the visual properties on that layer. The visual properties include brightness, saturation, contrast, and other common image properties and they are useful for setting the tone and appearance of a layer.

For example, image 1 below has a background layer with high saturation to give more intense blue. Image 2 is the same image, but the background layer has shadows and low saturation to give a darker, gloomy look and the foreground layer has a different hue to make the tower look pink.

Some popular reasons for adjusting the settings are:

  • To make a layer transparent or semi-transparent

  • To change the colors of an object on a layer

  • To make colors more vivid

  • To make a layer darker.
