The Blend feature lets you mix the colors of a foreground layer with the colors of the background layer. It creates a stylish translucent effect that can be useful for reducing the impact of certain layers.

Side-by-side views of a design on iPhone. The left design has a female athlete in the background. She is shown in full color. The right design has the same image, but the athlete is blended with the orange background, giving a translucent effect.

For example, in the images above, we used Blend to make the orange color of the background bleed into the layer containing the athlete. This makes the athlete less prominent in the design so that the product is the main focus.

On iPhone and iPad

The following video shows how to blend a layer with the background layer on the iPhone version of Photoroom. As examples, we use blend on:

  • A layer that already exists on the design

  • A layer that is added to the design (we add a cutout from the brand kit).

  1. Select Content.

  2. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  3. Select the design you want to edit.
Alternatively, you can create a new design and edit that. To learn how to create a design, see Create your first Photoroom design.

  4. Select the layer you want to blend with the background.

  5. Select Adjust in the layer settings.

  6. Use the Blend slider to control the amount of blend.

  7. [Optional] Select Export. Use the export settings to download the design as an image file. You can also share the design with other people.

  8. Select X to save your design and exit the editor.

Note: You can use the Adjust setting on any layers that you add to the design too. For example, in the video, we added a cutout from the brand kit and then set the blend on that.
