Photoroom positions the main object in your imported photo differently for AI Instagram Story designs, depending on:
Whether you are using Photoroom on iOS or Android
The version of Photoroom (iOS only)
See the sections below to learn about the positioning.
Note: AI Instagram Story is currently unavailable on the Web App. The Web App only has Instagram Story for generating static images.
On iPhone and iPad
Photoroom automatically detects if the main subject in your imported image is cropped (cut off). If it detects any cropped sides, Photoroom places those sides against the matching edge of your Instagram story design.
Note: This positioning is currently only available on iPhone and iPad for Photoroom versions 2025.28.01 and later.
Imported image cut off on a side
If you have an image that is cut off on one side, Photoroom will position that side against the edge of the canvas.
Imported image cut off at the top
If your image is cut off at the top, Photoroom will place the image at the top edge of your design.
Imported image cut off on bottom
If your image is cut off at the bottom, Photoroom will place the image at the bottom edge of your design.
Imported image cut off on multiple sides
If you import an image that has the main subject cut off on many sides, Photoroom will position each cut off side against an edge of the design.
Note: If your image is cut off on all four sides, the image will fill the canvas in Photoroom. Each cut-off edge in your image has to be against an edge of your design.
On Android
On Android, the AI will treat your imported photo as a complete picture. It can create imagery around the sides of your image or it may use your image as is.
