In this article, we explain how the various Insert image options work.

Access the Insert image screen

The Insert image screen is displayed whenever Photoroom requires you to upload or choose a source image (except in Batch and the product catalog editor).

Examples:

When you:

  • Select Start from a photo to create a new design

  • Open one of the standalone AI tools, such as AI Fashion Models or Ghost Mannequin

  • Select Content and then + to add a new design to a Space

  • Edit a design and select Insert.

Insert image options

The Insert image screen has these options:

  • Camera

  • Gallery

  • Files

  • Clipboard

  • Generate an image with AI

  • Categories (Latest from camera roll, Uploads, Brand cutouts, and more)

  • Shapes, Graphics, and Overlays.

Use the options to choose or create a source image. We describe each of the options below.

Gallery

Use the Gallery option to choose an image from the photos on your device.

When you select Gallery, Photoroom shows the available Pictures in a grid. Select a photo to use it as a source image.

If you prefer, you can select the Albums tab to see your photos organized into groups. Open an album and then select the source image you want.

Note: You may need to grant Photoroom permission to access your Gallery.

Camera

Use Camera to take a photo with your device's camera and use that photo as the source image.

When you select Camera, you may need to grant permission to Photoroom to access the camera. Once it has permission, you can take a photo and Photoroom will automatically upload it as your source image.

Files

Select Files to upload an image from your personal storage.

The options available can vary depending on:

  • Model and manufacturer of device

  • Android version

  • Installed apps.

You can always choose from your device photos on the Files screen. If you select the context menu (three-dot menu), you can use Browse to switch to a different photo app.

Clipboard

Use Clipboard to use the contents of the clipboard as your source image.

This option is only available if there is an image saved to your device's clipboard memory.

Generate an image with AI

Select Generate an image with AI to use one of Photoroom's AI tools to create a new image to use as your source image. Some of these features require a paid subscription and use AI credits.

  1. Select Generate an image with AI.

  2. Choose an AI tool.

  3. Use the AI tool to generate an image.

  4. Select the image.

  5. Select Use image.
Photoroom uses the generated image as the source image. It automatically returns you to the workflow where you accessed the Choose an image screen.

For example, let's say you were creating a new design and used the Flat Lay tool to generate an image. When you select Use image, Photoroom returns you to the new design workflow and uses the Flat Lay image as your source image.

Recent uploads, Latest from Gallery, and more

Below the options on the Insert image screen are categories of images that are:

  • On your device

  • Already in Photoroom.

The categories include Latest from Gallery and Recent uploads. You will only see categories for the types of images that exist in your Space.

Shapes, Graphics, and Overlays

These categories are only available when you access the Insert image screen from the Insert option (when editing a design).

Each category has different types of images that you can add to your design as a new layer.
