Use a shadow to create a 3D effect

Create a 3D effect by moving a shadow in 2D and 3D

By adding a shadow and moving it, you can give your image a 3D-effect. This is a great way to make your product images look more realistic and is especially effective on simple, light colored backgrounds.

On iPhone and iPad

To move a shadow for a 3D effect on the iPhone and iPad version of Photoroom:

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content and then select the design you want to edit. Alternatively, select Start from Photo and create a new design to work with.

  2. Select the foreground object that you want to have the shadow effect.

  3. Select the Shadow setting so that is turned on and the shadow settings are revealed.

  4. Select Move.

  5. Select the 3D button and then drag the shadow to change its angle and length.

  6. Select the 2D button and then drag the shadow to move it left, right, up, or down.

  7. Select Done to confirm the shadow effects.

  8. Select Done to close the layer settings.

  9. [Optional] Use the editing settings to make further changes to your design.

  10. Select Export. Use the export settings to save and share your design.


On Android

To move a shadow for a 3D effect on the Android version of Photoroom:

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content and then select the design you want to edit. Alternatively, select Start from Photo and create a new design to work with.

  2. Select the foreground object that you want to have the shadow effect.

  3. Select the Shadow setting so that is turned on and the shadow settings are revealed.

  4. Select one of the preset shadows, such as Top 1 or Long 1. Alternatively, select Custom.

    If you chose one of the preset shadows, ignore steps 5-8 and continue from step 9.

    If you chose Custom, continue from step 5.

  5. Select Move 3D and then drag the shadow to change its angle and length. Select Done to confirm.

  6. Select Move and then drag the shadow to move it left, right, up, or down. Select Done to confirm.

  7. [Optional] Use the Custom settings to further edit the shadow, for example, apply a blur effect or change its color.

  8. Select Done to confirm the shadow effects.

  9. Select Done to close the layer settings.

  10. [Optional] Use the editing settings to make further changes to your design.

  11. Select Export. Use the export settings to save and share your design.


On Web App

To move a shadow for a 3D effect on the Web App (desktop) version of Photoroom:

  1. Log in to Photoroom at app.photoroom.com

  2. Select Designs and then select the design you want to edit. Alternatively, select Create and then create a new design to work with.

  3. Select the foreground object that you want to have the shadow effect.

  4. Select the Shadows setting so that is turned on and the shadow settings are revealed.

  5. Select Move.

  6. Select the 3D button and then drag the shadow to change its angle and length.

  7. Select the 2D button and then drag the shadow to move it left, right, up, or down.

  8. Select the back icon next to the Move Shadow heading to confirm the shadow effects.

  9. [Optional] Use the editing settings to make further changes to your design.

  10. Select Download to save your design and download a local copy in your browser.
