Photoroom can export images in different file formats, including .jpeg, .png, and .webp (Android only). The .png format is best for designs with transparency, whereas .jpeg and .webp are better for keeping the file size small (but may be lower quality).

By default, Photoroom uses .png if an image has transparency. For images without transparency, it uses .jpeg. But you can choose which format is used in your Preferences.

On iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, you can also change the file format when you export a design.

For instructions, select the link for your device:

Note: The Preferences are for each user and are not shared through your team(s) or across platforms. You need to set them individually per team member and once per platform (web, iOS, Android).

On iPhone and iPad

If you are using Photoroom on an iPhone or iPad, you can set the file format in your Preferences. Your choice of file format is then used as the default for all designs.

You can also edit a design and choose a file format that only applies to that specific design.

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content.

  2. Select Preferences.

  3. Choose the export file format that Photoroom will use by default.

  4. Select Back.

  5. On the Create page, create a new design.

Alternatively, select Your Content and edit one of your existing designs.

  6. Select the Share icon in the top-right corner.

  7. On the Export page, you can see the file name for the design at the top. The file is set to the format you have chosen in your Preferences.

To change the format, select Options and then choose the format. This change in format only applies to the selected design, not all designs.

  8. Select Done.

  9. [Optional] To change the file name, select Options and then select the pencil icon next to the name. Enter the new file name and select Done.

  10. Use the options on the Export page to save and share your design.

On Android

If you are using Photoroom on an Android device, you can set the file format in your Preferences. Your choice of file format is then used as the default for all designs.

You can also edit a design and choose a file format that only applies to that specific design.

  9. [Optional] To change the file name, select Options and then select the name. Enter the new file name and select Done.

On Web App

On the Web App (desktop) version of Photoroom, you can set the file type in your Preferences.

(Video shows Photoroom on Web App)

  1. Select Preferences.

  2. Choose the file format.

  3. Create a new design or edit an existing one.

  4. [Optional] Change the file name for the design. Enter the name in the field at the top.

To download the same design in a different file format, you will need to go back into Preferences and change the file type again. Then edit your design again and download it.
