Make an object transparent

Learn how to make one object in a design transparent by using the Opacity feature

In Photoroom, you can create a design that has images, text, and graphics on different layers. Each layer has its own settings, and one of these is Opacity. It controls the transparency of a layer and you can use it to hide objects on a layer or create semi-transparent effects.

Note: If you have an image with multiple objects on the same layer, you cannot make one of the objects transparent without affecting the entire layer.


On iPhone, iPad, and Android

To make an object's layer transparent on mobile versions of Photoroom:

  1. Create a design that has objects on multiple layers. This could be an image with images, graphics, or text added on different layers. Alternatively, select Your Designs and select an existing design that has multiple layers.

    To learn more about layers, see Use layers to add many images to a design.

  2. Select an object that you want to make transparent.

  3. In the settings for the layer, select Adjust.

  4. Select Opacity.

  5. Use the slider to change the visibility of the layer. 0 is transparent, 100 is fully visible.

  6. Select Done to close the layer settings.

  7. Select Export. Use the export settings to save and share your design.


On the Web App

To make a layer transparent on the Web App (desktop) version of Photoroom:

  1. Create a design that has objects on multiple layers. This could be an image with images, graphics, or text added on different layers. Alternatively, select Your Designs and select an existing design that has multiple layers.

    To learn more about layers, see Use layers to add many images to a design.

  2. Select an object that you want to make transparent.

  3. In the settings for the layer, select Adjust.

  4. Select Opacity.

  5. Use the slider to change the visibility of the layer. 0 is transparent, 100 is fully visible.

  6. [ Optional ] Select an object on a different layer to access the settings for that layer. To view all of the layers in the sidebar, select the gray area behind your design.

  7. Select Download and choose a file type.

  8. Select Download to save your design and download a local copy in the browser.
