Photoroom makes it easy to change the background color of any design. You can set a background to a single color or you can change the coloring of a more complex background, such as a photo background or an AI background.
There are different ways to change the background color:
Set the background layer to use a single color.
Use the Adjust settings on the background layer. This lets you keep the existing background of your design, while changing its coloring.
This article has instructions for both ways on the Web App version of Photoroom. For instructions for the Android or iOS versions, see:
Select a single color for the background
To choose a different color for the background:
Log in at app.photoroom.com.
Select the Space you want to work in.
Either:
Select Designs and then select the design you want to edit.
Create a new design.
Select Create.
Click on Select photos and upload a photo. Photoroom removes the background automatically.
Select the background layer of your design.
This step only applies if your design does not currently have a single color background.
Select either:
Add as a solid color if your design has a transparent background
Change and then Solid color if your design already has a background, but it's not a solid color.
With a solid color background in place, select the color you want from the color palette or your brand kit (if available). If you select the color wheel, you can choose a shade from a color picker. Alternatively, you can or enter the Hex, RGB, or HSL code for a color.
Click on the gray area off-canvas to display the layers and close the background settings.
[Optional] Use the editing features to make further changes to your design. For example, to add text or shapes.
[Optional ] Select Download to download your design as an image file in the browser. Enter a name for the download folder, choose an image file format, and then select Download to confirm.
Select the Home button to save your design and exit the editor.

Select a template.
Select the background layer of your design.
Select Adjust.
Use the Adjust settings to change the appearance of the background:
Brightness
Use to change the overall light level (light or dark).
Contrast
Use to make the background punchier or softer. High contrast makes brighter highlights and darker shadows, while low contrast gives a softer, more even tone.
Saturation
Use to set the intensity of the background colors. Higher saturation means stronger, more vibrant colors, while lower saturation gives muted colors.
Highlights
Changes the brightest parts of the background without affecting the darker areas. Increase the highlights to make bright areas pop. Decrease them to show more detail in bright areas.
Shadows
Changes the darkest parts of the background without affecting the lighter areas. Increase shadows to make dark areas lighter. Decrease the shadows to make the dark areas even darker.
Sharpen
Use to make details on the background more or less pronounced. Increase the sharpness for more defined edges. Decrease the sharpness for softer edges.
Hue
Use to change which colors appear on the background. It works by detecting the colors that exist on the background and then shifting them to different colors on the color wheel. For example, reds may become pinks, and greens may become blue or yellow.
Warmth
Use to change the color temperature. Making an image warmer increases the amount of yellow and orange, while cooler makes it more blue.
Opacity
Use to make the background solid, semi-transparent, or fully transparent.
