With the Photoroom web app's AI Image feature, you can create a new design that contains an entirely new image based on a text description (prompt). When the AI generates an image you are happy with, you can either:

Insert it into the design as a full image
Insert its foreground objects into the design, but remove its background
Insert the AI image into the design as the background layer.

You can find instructions on how to do all of these below.

Note: Once the AI image is added to a design, it becomes a static image. It will not "redraw" when you move it or add other objects above or below it.

Create an AI image that has a background (full image)

To create an AI image that is a full image, with a background:

Log in to the Web App at app.photoroom.com.
Select the workspace that you want to work in.
Select Create in the sidebar.
Select AI Images.
Select the dimensions button (it shows Square by default) and choose the proportions for the AI image.
Select the style button (it shows Classic by default) and choose a style.
Enter a prompt that describes the image you want the AI to create. For example, "party glasses on a worktop".
Select Generate.
[Optional] If you want the AI to create more images based on the same prompt, select Generate again.
[Optional] If you don't like the images that the AI creates, change your prompt and select Generate again.
When you see an AI image that you like, move the cursor over the image and select its dotted menu.
Select Insert full image.

Photoroom adds the entire AI image as a new layer on the canvas.
Drag the AI image to your preferred position and use its handles to resize it.
[Optional] Use the other editing features to add text, graphics, or other images to your design. To learn more, see Introduction to editing in Photoroom.
[Optional] Download or Share your design.
Select the Home icon to save your design and return to the home page.

Create an AI image and remove its background

To create an AI image and remove its background:

Log in to the Web App at app.photoroom.com.
Select the workspace that you want to work in.
Select Create in the sidebar.
Select AI Images.
Select the dimensions button (it shows Square by default) and choose the proportions for the AI image.
Select the style button (it shows Classic by default) and choose a style.
Enter a prompt that describes the image you want the AI to create. For example, "bat flying".
Select Generate.
[Optional] If you want the AI to create more images based on the same prompt, select Generate again.
[Optional] If you don't like the images that the AI creates, change your prompt and select Generate again.
When you see an AI image that you like, move the cursor over the image and select its dotted menu.
Select Insert cutout image.

Photoroom inserts the foreground object(s) of the AI image as a new layer on the canvas.
Drag the AI image to your preferred position and use its handles to resize it.
[Optional] Use the other editing features to add text, graphics, or other images to your design. To learn more, see Introduction to editing in Photoroom.

Tip: If you want to insert your design into other designs, select the background of the canvas to show the layers. Then select the background layer. On the background layer, select Adjust and then set the Opacity to 0. This will give your design a transparent background. When you insert it into other designs, only the AI image will appear.
[Optional] Download or Share your design.
Select the Home icon to save your design and return to the home page.

Create an AI image and use it as a background layer

To create an AI image and use it as the background layer of your design:

Log in to the Web App at app.photoroom.com.
Select the workspace that you want to work in.
Select Create in the sidebar.
Select AI Images.
Select the dimensions button (it shows Square by default) and choose the proportions for the AI image.
Select the style button (it shows Classic by default) and choose a style.
Enter a prompt that describes the image you want the AI to create. For example, "wintery mountain landscape".
Select Generate.
[Optional] If you want the AI to create more images based on the same prompt, select Generate again.
[Optional] If you don't like the images that the AI creates, change your prompt and select Generate again.
When you see an AI image that you like, move the cursor over the image and select its dotted menu.
Select Use as background.

Photoroom inserts the AI image as the background layer of your design. Note that it is treated as a static image. If you move foreground objects, the background will not automatically update like an AI background would.
[Optional] Use the other editing features to add text, graphics, or other images to your design. These will be added as foreground layers on top of the background layer. To learn more, see Introduction to editing in Photoroom.

Select the Home icon to save your design and return to the home page.
