To create AI Backgrounds, you can use text descriptions (prompts) or you can choose a theme instead. Photoroom will then generate a suitable AI Background.

The prompts work slightly differently on iOS and Android compared to how they work on the Web App. You can learn about the differences below.

On iOS and Android

On the mobile versions of Photoroom, AI Background can combine your text prompt and your choice of background theme. The table and example below show how this works.

Prompt (Description)

Background

Result

You add a description

No background
chosen

AI generates an image based only on your prompt.

No description

You choose
a background

AI generates an image based only on the chosen background.

You add a description

You choose
a background

AI generates an image based on a combination of your prompt and the chosen background.

Example:

Let's say you upload a photo of a bag. You begin by entering a description of a bag on a silver table.

An image showing a bag on a wooden table. The background is a gray wall.

You then choose a cloud background and generate again. This time, you get a result that is based on a combination of your text prompt and chosen background (cloud).

To start again with no prompt or background choice in place, exit AI Backgrounds. The next time you use AI Backgrounds, you start from scratch.

On Web App

On the Web App, prompts and selections are not combined. If you enter a text prompt to generate a background and then choose a background, your text prompt is ignored.

Example:

Let's say you upload a photo of a bag. You select Create background and create this text prompt:

Your subject on a glass surface with an ocean view in the background.

You then go back and choose the Wood theme. Photoroom generates a new AI Background that is based only on the Wood theme. It does not take your previous text prompt into consideration.
