On iPhone and iPad

To create an image that shows clothes laid flat:

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone and is edited to speed up image generation).

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Flat lay.

If you don't see the Flat Lay option, select the See more button to get a full list of the AI tools.

  4. Set the Size of the image that Photoroom will create. Choose from:

    • Square

    • Portrait (3:2 ratio)

    • Landscape (3:2 ratio).

  5. Select the Brand kit icon and either:

    • Turn Apply brand style on to let the Brand style information influence the AI when you generate the Flat Lay images.

You can edit the Brand style information here, but be aware that any changes you make also affect the Brand kit for the entire Space.

    • Turn Apply brand style off to set Flat Lay to ignore the Brand style information.

  6. Select Subject and upload a clothing photo.

Tip: You can use any product photo! This includes images that you've created with Photoroom AI features, such as Virtual Model, and then exported as image files.

  7. Select the arrow button to generate 2 images.

  8. [Optional] Select the context menu for an image and select More angles to generate images from a different viewpoint.

  9. [Optional] Select the context menu and use Edit with AI to make changes to an image. Describe the changes you want and then select the arrow button to generate.

  10. Either:

    • SeIect one of the images to use it as a starting point. You only need the image to be close to what you want, as you can use AI to edit it later. This is often more effective than generating completely different AI images.

    • Select the arrow button to generate more alternatives. When you have an image you can use, select it.

  11. [Optional] To make more changes using AI, enter a description of the changes in the field. Select the arrow button to generate.

  12. Either:

    • Select Open in editor to open your image as a design in the main editor. Use this option if you want to make further changes, such as adding text, graphics, or a background.

      Continue from step 13.

    • Select Save to save your image as a design and download it to your device as an image file. Use this option if you want to use the image without making further changes.

If you save the design, you have finished creating your Flat Lay design. You can ignore the remaining steps.

  13. Either:

    • Wait for Photoroom to remove the background of your image. When it is finished, you will get a transparent background layer with your clothing image on a separate layer. This makes it easier to add backgrounds and reorder layers in the main editor.

    • Select Skip background removal. You will get a design that has your entire Flat Lay image on a single layer.

  14. Use the Photoroom editor to make additional changes, such as adding text, graphics, and backgrounds.

To learn how to use the editing features, see Features and tools.

  15. [Optional] Select Export to download the image. You can use the Export settings to share your design too.

If you have an appropriate plan, you can also turn your design into a video (see Export a design as a video).

  16. Select Close design to exit.

Tip: To use the Flat lay image with a template, export it as an image file. Then import the image file as a new design and Photoroom will let you choose a template as the background. To learn how to import the image as a new design, see Start a new design (iOS).
