Remove and restore with Cutout (Android)

Learn how to use Cutout to erase parts of a layer or restore parts of a layer that were previously removed.

In this article, we explain how to use Cutout on the Android version of Photoroom to:

  • Erase parts of a layer

  • Restore parts of a layer that were previously removed.

Use Edit Cutout to remove part of an image (Android)

To use Edit Cutout to remove part of an image on the Android version of Photoroom:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Either:

    • Create a new design:

      1. On the Home screen select Start from Photo. Alternatively, select New design on the Content screen.

      2. Upload an image to work with.

      3. Wait for Photoroom to remove the background.

      4. Choose a template, for example, a classic white template.

    • Select Content and select a design to work with.

  3. Select the foreground layer you want to edit.

    Note: Cutout is not available on Background layers.

  4. Select Cutout in the layer settings.

  5. Select Erase.

  6. Either:

    • Select Assisted and then tap on the areas you want to remove.

    • Select Manual, use the slider to set the brush size, and then draw over the areas you want to remove.

  7. Select Done to confirm and return to the editor.

  8. [Optional] Use the editor settings to make further changes, such as changing the background, adding text, adding shapes, and resizing layers.

  9. Select Export. Photoroom stores your design and also saves it to your device as an image file. There are also options for sharing the design.


Use Edit Cutout to restore parts of an image (Android)

To use Edit Cutout to restore parts of an image on the Android version of Photoroom:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Either:

    • Create a new design:

      1. On the Home screen select Start from Photo. Alternatively, select New design on the Content screen.

      2. Upload an image to work with.

      3. Wait for Photoroom to remove the background.

      4. Choose a template, for example, a classic white template.

    • Select Content and select a design to work with.

  3. Select the foreground layer you want to edit.

    Note: Cutout is not available on Background layers.

  4. Select Cutout in the layer settings.

  5. Select Restore.

  6. Either:

    • Select Assisted and then tap on the areas you want to restore to the image.

    • Select Manual, use the slider to set the brush size, and then draw over the areas you want to restore.

  7. Select Done to confirm and return to the editor.

  8. [Optional] Use the editor settings to make further changes, such as changing the background, adding text, adding shapes, and resizing layers.

  9. Select Export. Photoroom stores your design and also saves it to your device as an image file. There are also options for sharing the design.
