This article explains how to use Photoroom for Shopify's Flat Lay feature on the Web App version of Photoroom. For other platforms, see:

  • Create Flat Lay images for Shopify (iOS).

Steps (Web App)

To use Flat Lay to show clothing laid flat:

(Video is edited to show faster AI generation times).

Stage 1: Access the Flat Lay tool

  1. Select any of the product's images to open the Product Catalog Editor.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Flat Lay.

Alternatively, select a product image to display its pill menu. Select More tools and then Flat Lay.

  4. Select the images you want to use. Photoroom will generate a new image for each image you select.

To learn about selecting, see How to select images using the Product Catalog (Web App).

Important: Make sure you select AI Tools > Flat Lay from inside Photoroom for Shopify. If you're outside Photoroom for Shopify, the standalone Flat Lay feature will open instead.

Stage 2: Use the Flat Lay settings

Use the Flat Lay settings to give Photoroom instructions:

  • Quality
Choose the Quality (availability depends on your subscription):

    • Standard
Pro and higher. 1k resolution, simpler but fastest AI model, consumes fewer AI credits than Advanced.

    • Advanced
Max and higher. 2k resolution, better AI model than Standard, consumes more AI credits than Standard, fewer than Premium.

    • Premium
Ultra. 4k+ resolution, best AI model, consumes most AI credits.

  • Size
Choose the aspect ratio for the image.

  • Brand
Choose whether your Brand description (set in the Brand Kit) should influence the AI when it generates your images.

You can edit the brand description if needed. Be aware that any changes you make will affect the brand description across the entire Space.

  • Prompt (describe anything field)
Enter any other information for the AI, for example, "show laid flat on a wooden surface".

When you have made your choices:

  1. Select the arrow button to generate your images.

  2. [Optional] Change the settings and generate again to make different images.

Stage 3: Edit your product images

The editing steps in this stage are optional. Features that use AI to generate an image require AI credits.

You can edit your product images in several ways:

  • Use the Product Catalog Editor options in the side menu

  • Select a product image and use the options available from its pill menu

  • Open an image in the main editor to make edits that are unavailable in the Product Catalog Editor, such as adding text and graphics.

To learn how to use these tools, see the Edit Product Catalog images articles.

Stage 4: Publish

When you have finished editing:

  1. Use the Shopify sidebar to check the listing score.

Follow any recommendations to improve the score, such as adding more images.

  2. Check the SEO filenames and Alt text for your images.

Photoroom generates them automatically, but you can also edit them manually or generate new ones.
