Turn multiple photos of clothing on a model or hanger into clean "laid flat" images with Flat Lay. Select your Product Catalog images, activate Flat Lay, and Photoroom will generate ready-to-use images.

For example, in the image, we created flat lay images from photos of t-shirts worn by models.

Before and after images. Before images show models wearing t-shirts. After images show the t-shirts laid flat on a white background.

Availability

  • Pro users can use Flat Lay on individual batch images.

  • Max and Ultra users can use Flat Lay on multiple images at once.

  • Product Catalog requires a Max or Ultra plan to export and publish.

  • Each generation uses AI credits.

Steps (Web App)

To use Flat Lay to show clothing laid flat:

(Video is edited to show faster AI generation times).

Stage 1: Access the Flat Lay tool

  1. Select any of the product's images to open the Product Catalog Editor.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Flat Lay.

Alternatively, select a product image to display its pill menu. Select More tools and then Flat Lay.

Stage 2: Use the Flat Lay settings

Use the Flat Lay settings to give Photoroom instructions:

  1. Select the images you want to use. Photoroom will generate a new image for each image you select.

To learn about selecting, see How to select images using the Product Catalog (Web App).

  2. Choose a Size for the generated image.

  3. Choose whether the Brand style description should influence the AI when it generates an image.

  4. Use the prompt to describe what you want in your flat lay image.

For example, if you have images showing models wearing T-shirts and jeans, you could use a "Create a flat lay of T-shirt only. No jeans." prompt.

  5. Select Generate image.

    Each generation uses AI credits.

Photoroom generates a flat lay version of each selected image based on your settings.

Note: The Flat Lay settings are the same as those for the standalone Flat Lay tool.

Stage 3: Edit your product images

The editing steps in this stage are optional. Features that use AI to generate an image require AI credits.

You can edit your product images in several ways:

  • Use the Product Catalog Editor options in the side menu

  • Select a product image and use the options available from its pill menu

  • Open an image in the main editor to make edits that are unavailable in the Product Catalog Editor, such as adding text and graphics.

To learn how to use these tools, see the Edit Product Catalog images articles.

Stage 4: Publish

When you have finished editing:

  1. Use the Shopify sidebar to check the listing score.

Follow any recommendations to improve the score, such as adding more images.

  2. Check the SEO filenames and Alt text for your images.

Photoroom generates them automatically, but you can also edit them manually or generate new ones.
