You can use the Studio Shot tool to turn regular product photos into clean, minimalist, studio-style images.

Studio shot:

  • Replaces the original background with a minimalist background

  • Suggests color schemes

  • Lets you control the shadows

  • Only changes the background of the image.

Tip: Studio Shot is not the only way to create product images with a studio background. You could also use Product Beautifier, which adds a studio background and enhances the product too, but uses more AI credits. To learn more, see Product Beautifier vs Studio Shot.

Steps (Web App)

To create Studio Shot images:

Stage 1: Open an image in Studio Shot

Upload a product image to Studio Shot:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI tools.

  3. Select Studio Shot.

  4. Upload an image to use as a starting point.

Stage 2: Use the Studio Shot settings

Use the Studio Shot settings to set the shadow, backdrop, size, and color:

  1. Set the Shadow effect by choosing from the options:

    • Soft
      A light, diffused shadow.

    • Hard
      A dark, strong shadow.

    • Floating
A shadow beneath the object, to create a hovering effect.

    • None
      No shadow.

  2. Choose a style of Backdrop:

    1. Plain
      Simple, single color background.

    2. Cyclo
A cyclorama background to mimic a seamless, curved background.

    3. Lightbox
A lightbox background to mimic a softly-lit background with a rear wall and floor.

  3. Choose a Size.

  4. Select a Suggested color from the grid. When you select an image in the grid, it opens in the main editor, ready for further editing.

Stage 3: Further editing and download

The editing and download steps in this stage are optional.

  1. Use the features of the main editor to make further changes, for example, to add text or graphics.

To learn about the editing features, see the Editing articles:

  2. Download your image. See Download a design (Web App).

  3. Select Home to exit the editor. Photoroom saves your image as a design. You can access it from the Designs for the Space.
