Learn how to change the color of a background layer

Changing the background color can really help showcase your product or subject. In Photoroom, you set the background color on the background layer and you can choose from preset colors or from a color wheel.

It's a good idea to select a color that goes well with the color palette of your product.


On iPhone or iPad

To change the color of a background layer on iPhone or iPad:

  1. On the Create page, select Start from photo and import a new photo. Choose a template, such as the classic white background. For more details, see Create your first Photoroom design.

    Alternatively, you could select Your Content and select one of your existing designs. You can then edit that.

  2. This step varies, depending on whether you are editing a new design or an existing one:

    1. For new designs, select Layers and then select the Background layer.

    2. For designed that are already saved, select Change background and then Color.

  3. Choose a color for the background.

  4. Select X in the top corner of the Color settings to close the settings.

  5. Select Done for the background layer.

  6. Select the Export icon and then use the export settings to save and share your design.


On Android

To change the color of a background layer on iPhone or iPad:

  1. On the Create page, select Start from photo and import a new photo. Choose a template, such as the classic white background. For more details, see Create your first Photoroom design.

    Alternatively, you could select Your Content and select one of your existing designs. You can then edit that.

  2. This step varies, depending on whether you are editing a new design or an existing one:

    1. For new designs, select Layers and then select the Background layer.

    2. For designed that are already saved, select Change background and then Color.

  3. Choose a color for the background.

  4. Select X in the top corner of the Color settings to close the settings.

  5. Select Done for the background layer.

  6. Select the Export icon and then use the export settings to save and share your design.


On Web App

To change the background color on the Web App (desktop) version of Photoroom:

  1. On the Create page, select + Select from photo and import a new photo. Choose a template, such as the classic white background. For more details, see Create your first Photoroom design.

    Alternatively, you could select Designs and select one of your existing designs. You can then edit that.

  2. Select the Background layer.

  3. Choose a color for the background. There are several ways to choose a color:

    1. Choose one of the preset colors. These are shown as selectable circles and are colors that Photoroom has detected in your design.

    2. Select the + icon to reveal more colors to choose from.

    3. Select the color wheel icon (multi-color circle) to display a color selector. You can select a shade from the color panel, use the slider to change the color, or enter a color value in the fields at the bottom. Select the up and down arrow icon to switch between the different color values, such as RGB and hex.

  4. Collapse the background layer.

  5. Select Download to save your design and download a local copy in the browser.
