Clear prompts lead to clearer results. Learn how to describe your images and videos so you can get the results you want in fewer attempts, helping you make more efficient use of your AI credits.
Whether you’re creating product images, lifestyle visuals, or videos for your store, these tips will help you use Photoroom more effectively and efficiently.
Prompts for images
Creating AI images is about clearly describing a scene. A precise prompt helps the AI produce the image you want with fewer revisions.
Note: Some Photoroom features use a combination of image, text prompt, and settings to control what the AI generates. In your prompt, you don’t need to include details that are already covered by a setting. For example, you don't need to describe the pose with a Virtual Model as there is already a "pose" setting.
Include essential details
Mention the subject, clothing or style, setting, and materials. This gives the AI the basic building blocks for your image.
Use descriptive words
Include words that describe how things look, feel, or move, like "flowing", "glossy", "minimalist", "luxurious".
Specify color palette
Describe the types of colors you want, such as "soft pastels" or "vibrant".
Set the scene and mood
Describe lighting and atmosphere, for example, "bright", "soft", "dramatic".
Control composition
Explain how objects should be positioned in the image. Use composition terms like "centered", "close-up", "wide shot", "rule of thirds", "symmetrical".
Include the perspective
Describe the viewpoint or camera angle by using terms like "top-down", "close-up", "full-body", "eye-level".
Use negative prompts, if needed
Tell the AI what you don't want to appear in the image.
Include the intended use
Mention what the image will be used for, for example, "e-commerce product photo". This can help the AI match the image to your needs.
Example:
For this example, we used the (AI Tools) Create any image feature on the Web App. It creates an image entirely from a text prompt.
We were aiming to create a promotional image of a model wearing a red satin evening dress.
Weaker prompt:
“A woman in a red dress in a studio for a product photo”
Result:
Stronger prompt:
“A young woman wears a red satin evening dress, standing in a bright modern studio for an e-commerce product photo. Soft natural light illuminates her, and she poses with one hand on her hip. The dress flows naturally, and she is centered in the frame on a clean white background. Do not include other people or props.”
Result:
This shows how a more descriptive prompt helps the AI generate images that are closer to what you want, with fewer retries.
Prompts for video
Creating AI videos is about describing both the scene and the action. Clear, detailed prompts help the AI generate the motion you want with fewer revisions.
Photoroom's Video Generator tool builds a prompt automatically, based on the:
Image you use as a starting point
Video template you choose for the scene and motion.
You can use a prompt to describe any changes you want. If you choose to not use a template, you can use the prompt to describe the entire scene.
Tips for crafting a video prompt:
Describe the cinematography first
Start your prompt by describing the camera position and how you want the subject of your image to be framed. This helps the AI to understand what the focus of the scene should be.
Describe the main subject or focal point
Mention the subject, clothing or style, setting, and materials. This gives the AI the basic building blocks for your image. This is usually taken from the image you use as a starting point.
Define the movement
Describe any movement in the scene and also how fast the scene should move, using terms like "Slow and graceful" or "quick, energetic".Emphasize important details
Add a short description of things you don't want the AI to miss, such as the flow of a dress or a product's position in a frame.
Set the context
Use descriptive language to describe the backdrop and the environment for the background.
Style and ambience
Describe the lighting, shadows, and color tones, and style you want.
Use negative prompts, if needed
Tell the AI what you don't want to appear in the image.
Include the intended use
Mention what the video will be used for, for example, "social media product promotion". This can help the AI match the image to your needs.
Example:
Uploaded photo: Photo of a woman wearing sunglasses.
Video Template: None selected.
Prompt:
“Camera holds a static medium shot at face-level, framing the model from collar to crown with tight focus on the sunglasses. Promotional video for sunglasses. The model holds a composed forward gaze, then lifts her chin in one fluid, confident arc, angling her face so the sunglasses catch the light. The scene is set in a minimal PDP studio against a soft cream muslin backdrop. Soft, even light, no harsh shadows. Color grading is cool neutral and restrained. Bright whites, soft warm skin tones, and pure mid-tones reinforce the minimalistic aesthetic.”
A more descriptive prompt helps the AI produce a video that matches your vision more closely, with fewer adjustments needed.
