Photoroom includes a variety of pre-made templates that you can use, such as templates for social media sites and templates for special events. But you can also create your own custom templates too.

By creating your own template, you can create the design that you want and then apply it to new designs. For example, you could create a template for a winter sale and apply it to designs for different products.

In this image:

  • Left: A custom template. It has a background and text and a replaceable product image layer.

  • Middle: A design. This is a photo of a green bag that has been imported into Photoroom and then the template has been applied.

  • Right: A design. This is a photo of a yellow bag that has been imported into Photoroom and then the template has been applied.

To create a custom template, you first need to create a design. You can use the Turn into template option to convert the design into a template. For instructions, see the sections below.

On iPhone and iPad

To create a template on an iPhone or iPad:

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone)

  1. Select Your Content and choose the workspace you want to work in.

  2. Select Create and then Start from Photo. Alternatively, you could choose to work with one of your existing designs from the Your Content page.

  3. Choose to import a photo that is suitable for the background of your image. If you don't have one, you could create one with AI Backgrounds, export that as an image file, and then import the image file.

During the import, skip the background removal.

  4. Edit your design so that it contains a typical product image and any other text and graphics that you want on your template.

    Use:

    1. Layers to move an object behind or in front of another layer. Press and hold the layer name and then drag it up or down in the list. You can also select a layer to access the editing settings for the object on that layer. For more details, see the Layers articles.

    2. Insert to add extra images and shapes to your design. You can choose from the library, your brand kit, camera roll, files, or you can generate a new image with AI. Whatever you insert will appear on a new layer.

When you move a shape or image, Photoroom shows guidelines to help you position and align your layers.

    3. Text to add words to your design.

    4. Resize to change the canvas size of your design.

    5. Backgrounds to change the background.

    6. Shadows to apply AI shading effects.

  5. When you are happy with your design, select the cross icon (X) to close it and save it.

  6. Select Your Content.

  7. Find your new design in the Your Designs section (of the Your Content page) and select its dotted menu ( ... ).

  8. Select Turn into Template.

  9. In the Your Templates section, select the new template you have just created.

  10. Select Edit the original template.

  11. Select the layer that you want to be able to replace when you use the template on other designs. This is usually a layer for your product photo.

  12. In the layer settings, switch Replaceable Subject on. The layer in your template goes black and has a replace symbol.

  13. Select the cross icon (X) to close your template.

Your design is now saved as a template.

When you create a new design, Photoroom will remove the background and then give you the option to choose a template or AI Backgrounds. Your custom template is listed under Your Templates. If you select it, Photoroom will use it as the basis for a new design and will swap the replaceable layer for your newly imported photo.
