Create a design for an eBay listing

Learn how to use Photoroom to create more professional and appealing images for your eBay listings

Photoroom makes it easy to create clean, stylish and appealing images for your eBay listings. In just a few steps, you can remove the background from your photos, apply a pre-prepared eBay template, and add a shadow to create a professional-looking image.

In this article, we explain how to turn a photo of a product into a product photo for an eBay listing. We do not explain how to add it to your eBay listing as once you have created your image file in Photoroom, you can upload it to eBay in the same way as any other image.

On iPhone and iPad

To create a design that you can use on an eBay listing:

  1. Use your iPhone or iPad to take a photo of the product you want to sell on eBay. Try to capture the subject of the photo in natural light for a better image.

  2. Open the Photoroom app.

  3. On the Create page, select Start from Photo.

  4. Select the photo from your Camera Roll.
    Photoroom imports the photo and removes its background automatically.

  5. Scroll down to Marketplaces and select the Ebay template. This gives your design a white background and an appropriate size for eBay listings.

  6. Select the object and use gestures to resize it and reposition it in the design.

  7. Turn the Shadow effect on in the object's layer settings.

  8. Select one of the shadow effects from the available options. Choose Custom if you want to be able to change the size, color and intensity of the shadow.

    To learn more about the shadow options, see Use a shadow to create a 3D effect.

    Note: If you are on the Pro or Business plan, you can use AI Shadows instead of the object layer shadow effects. For more information on AI Shadows, see Add AI Shadows to your designs.

  9. Select Done.

  10. Select Export.

  11. Use:

    • Share image to send a copy of the image elsewhere, for example, to email it to someone or airdrop it to a computer.

    • Save to Files to save the image in a folder on your device.

  12. Select Done.

  13. Use a browser or the eBay app to log in to eBay and create a new listing. You can then upload your image file into the listing.


On Android

To create a design that you can use on an eBay listing:

  1. Use your Android device to take a photo of the product you want to sell on eBay. Try to capture the subject of the photo in natural light for a better image.

  2. Open the Photoroom app.

  3. On the Create page, select Start from Photo.

  4. Select the photo from your Gallery.
    Photoroom imports the photo and removes its background automatically.

  5. Scroll down to Marketplaces and select the Ebay template. This gives your design a white background and an appropriate size for eBay listings.

  6. Select the object and use gestures to resize it and reposition it in the design.

  7. Turn the Shadow effect on in the object's layer settings.

  8. Select one of the shadow effects from the available options. Choose Custom if you want to be able to change the size, color and intensity of the shadow.

  9. Select Done.

  10. Select Export.

  11. Use:

    • Share to send a copy of the image elsewhere, for example, to email it to someone or upload it to cloud storage.

    • Save to Gallery to save the image to your device's photo gallery.

  12. Select Done.

  13. Use a browser or the eBay app to log in to eBay and create a new listing. You can then upload your image file into the listing.


On Web App

To create a design that you can use on an eBay listing:

  1. Use your a phone or camera to take a photo of the product you want to sell on eBay. Try to capture the subject of the photo in natural light for a better image.

  2. Transfer the photo to your computer.

  3. Log in to Photoroom at app.photoroom.com.

  4. Select the workspace you want to work in, for example, your personal workspace.

  5. Select Select a photo.

  6. Browse to your photo, select it and then select Open to upload it to Photoroom.
    Photoroom automatically removes the background and displays the rest of your image on a white background in the editor.

  7. Select Templates.

  8. Scroll down to the Marketplaces section and then select the eBay template. You can select the left and right See all buttons to scroll through the available Marketplaces templates.

    When you select the eBay template, Photoroom applies it to your design. It gives the design an appropriate size for eBay listings and keeps the white background as this is an eBay requirement.

  9. Select the object in your image and drag it to your preferred position. Use the object's handles to resize it, if necessary.

  10. With the object still selected, turn its Shadows option on.

  11. Use the Shadows options to style and position the shadow:

    • Intensity
      Select Intensity and then use the slider to change the strength of the shadow. Stronger shadows are darker and larger.

    • Blur
      Select Blur and then use the slider to change the sharpness of the shadow. A high amount of blur produces softer edges.

    • Shortness
      Select Shortness and use the slider to change the length of the shadow.

    • Color
      Select Color and use the color selector tools to change the color of the shadow.

    • Move
      Select Move. To move the shadow up, down, left, or right, select the 2D tab and then drag the shadow. To change the angle of the shadow, select the 3D tab and then drag the shadow. Select the back arrow in the Move Shadow section to return to the layer settings.

  12. Select the download icon to download a copy of your design as an image file. Enter a name for the file and choose its format and then select Download. The file downloads in your browser.

  13. [Optional] Select the Share button and use the options to share your design as an image file.

  14. Select Home.

  15. Use a browser or the eBay app to log in to eBay and create a new listing. You can then upload your image file into the listing.
