Did you know you can use Photoroom to create line art images for coloring books that you can sell online? All you need is the Create any image feature and your imagination!

Side-by-side images. Image 1 shows a black and white line drawing of a man and woman scuba diving in a coral reef. Image 2 shows a polygon line art drawing of a wolf's head, also in black and white.

Example of Coloring pages created in Photoroom.

On iPhone and iPad

To create a line art coloring page design:

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone. AI generation has been speeded up.)

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select the See <number> more link to reveal the full list of AI Tools.

  4. Select Create any image.

  5. Enter a prompt to describe the scene you want. Here are some examples:

"Make a coloring book line drawing of a man and a woman scuba diving in a coral reef. No color."

"Make a coloring book line drawing of an elephant's head and shoulders. Use a geometric style. No color."

"Make a coloring book line drawing of an astronaut doing a space walk. No color."

  6. Use Size to set the dimensions of the image.

  7. Leave Style set to Random.

  8. Select the arrow button to generate 2 images.

  9. Decide whether to use either of the images:

    • If an image is close to what you want, select it. You will get a chance to make changes later.

    • If both images are unsuitable, edit your prompt and select the arrow button to generate more. When you have an image that's close to what you want, select it.

  10. [Optional] Use Remove background to toggle the background layer on and off.

  11. [Optional] Enter a description of any further changes you'd like the AI to make and then press the arrow button to generate.

  12. [Optional] Select Export. Use the export options to save and share your image.

  13. Select X to exit.

  14. Repeat the previous steps to create a collection of image files that you can then compile into a coloring book. You will need to use third-party software or services to compile and format the book. Alternatively, you can print out your image files and use the coloring pages as individual sheets.

Tip: You can turn a photo into a coloring-book-style line drawing by using the Describe any change feature. Upload your image and then ask the AI to create a line drawing in your prompt before generating an image. To learn more, see Use Describe any change to alter your images.

On Web App

To create a line art coloring page:

(AI generation has been speeded up in video).

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Create any image. You may need to select See all first to reveal the full list of AI Tools.

  4. Enter a prompt to describe the scene you want. Here are some examples:

"A man and a woman scuba diving in a coral reef. No color."
"A polygon drawing of an elephant's head and shoulders. No color."
"An astronaut doing a space walk. No color."

Tip: It's a good idea to include "no color" as it helps to guide the AI to only using black and white in the images.

  5. Use Size to set the dimensions of the image.

  6. Leave Style set to Random.

  7. Select the arrow button to generate 2 images.

  8. Decide whether to use either of the images:

    • If an image is close to what you want, select it. You will get a chance to make changes later.

    • If both images are unsuitable, edit your prompt and select the arrow button to generate more. When you have an image that's close to what you want, select it.

  9. [Optional] Use Remove background to toggle the background layer on and off.

  10. [Optional] Use these settings to make changes:

    • Generate variations to create alternative versions.

    • Change something to alter the prompt. Photoroom remembers the original prompt for the image, so you only need to describe the change you want.

    • Retouch to use the Retouch tool to remove parts of the image. To learn more about the Retouch tool, see Remove part of an AI Image with Retouch.

    • Resize to change the dimensions of the image.

  11. [Optional] Select Download to download the image.

  12. Select Use this image to open the image in the main editor.

  13. [Optional] Use the editor to make changes to the design. You can add text, graphics, and other elements if you wish.

Tip: The line drawing is an AI image on a single layer. To change it, select the layer and then use Describe a change to describe the changes you want. The AI will redraw the layer.

  14. [Optional] Select Download. Enter a name for the image file and choose a file format, then select Download. The image is downloaded in your browser. You can use the image file in other applications.

  15. Select Home to exit the editor and save your design.

    Home icon is a house.

  16. Repeat the previous steps to create a collection of image files that you can then compile into a coloring book. You will need to use third-party software or services to compile and format the book. Alternatively, you can print out your image files and use the coloring pages as individual sheets.
