Restore the original background of an AI-generated image

Learn how to restore a background that has been removed from an AI-generated image

When you use an AI feature to create an image, Photoroom generates an image with a background. You can choose to keep the background or remove it. If you remove the background and later change your mind, you can bring it back by turning off the Remove background toggle (Web App only).

On Web App

To restore the original background of an AI-generated image:

  1. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select the AI tool you want to use, for example, Create any image.

  4. Either:

    • Enter a prompt to generate a new image and then select the image.

    • Select one of your previously generated images.

  5. Turn on Remove background.

  6. Select Use this image to open the image in the editor.

  7. Select the foreground layer.

  8. Use the Remove background setting to toggle the original background on and off.

    Note: If you give the image an AI Background, Photoroom's AI will redraw it when you use Remove background. The AI background may change each time it is redrawn.

  9. [Optional] Use the editor settings to make further changes, such as add text or graphics.

  10. [Optional] Select Download to download the design as an image file. Enter a name for the file, select the file format and then select Download.

  11. Select Home to save your design and exit the editor.

    Home button is a house icon.
