Use Photoroom's Retouch tool to remove objects from photos.

Image shows before and after. Before is a photo of a bag and a water bottle on a table. After is just the bag on the table. Retouch has erased the bottle.

Note: Retouch is available as a dedicated standalone tool (for new designs) and as a feature within the editor (for existing designs). In this article, we cover the step-by-step instructions for both ways of using Retouch for erasing.

For more information on how the tool works and what each setting offers, see How to use Retouch.

Availability

  • Add mode is only available on iOS and Android.

  • Retouch is a free utility. It does not require AI credits.

Steps: Upload an image and Retouch it

If you are going to upload an image to use with Retouch, use the standalone Retouch tool:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI tools.

  3. Select Retouch.

  4. Upload the image you want to edit.

  5. Set the brush size.

  6. Paint over the area you want to erase.

Photoroom may shrink the object or only partially remove it rather than erasing it completely. If this happens, keep painting over it until it's gone.

  7. When you are happy with the image, select Confirm to apply the erase.

Photoroom returns you to the editor. You can then edit the image further, save it, share it, or download it.

Steps: Retouch an existing image

To use Retouch with an image that already exists in Photoroom:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select Designs and choose an existing design to edit.

Alternatively, create a new design and open it in the editor.

  3. Select a foreground layer.

  4. Select Retouch.

  5. Upload the image you want to edit.

  6. Set the brush size.

  7. Paint over the area you want to erase.

Photoroom may shrink the object or only partially remove it rather than erasing it completely. If this happens, keep painting over it until it's gone.

  8. When you are happy with the image, select Confirm to apply the erase.

Photoroom returns you to the editor. You can then edit the image further, save it, share it, or download it.

  9. Select Home to exit the editor. The image is saved as a design automatically.
