With the Batch feature, you can apply AI-generated shadows to multiple images at once. It is a quick and convenient way of making your product photos look more three-dimensional and realistic.

Two pictures of a shoe. One has no shadow and the other has a realistic AI-generated shadow.

Note: Adding AI Shadows is an optional step when editing a batch of images.

Availability

The Batch features are only available on paid plans.

AI Shadows:

  • Presets are available on all paid plans.

  • Custom settings are available on Max and Ultra only.

  • Require AI credits.

This article explains how to use AI Shadows in Batch on the iOS version of Photoroom. For other platforms, see:

Steps (iOS)

To apply AI Shadows to a batch of images:

  1. Create a batch of images or select Batch and then Resume previous batch.

  2. Select AI Shadows.

  3. On the Presets tab, choose one of the shadow styles:

    • None
      No shadow.

    • Soft
      Light shadow.

    • Hard
      Strong, angled shadow.

    • Floating
      Shadow below object.

  4. [Max and Ultra only] Use the Custom tab to fine-tune the AI Shadow. There are several options (explained below).

    • Intensity
Controls the darkness of the shadow. Ranges from light gray shadows to deep almost black shadows.

    • Softness
Controls the sharpness of the shadow. Ranges from soft, blurry, dissipated shadows to dense shadows with defined edges.

    • Direction
Controls where the shadow falls around the object. The slider represents a full 360° around the object, with positions such as Left, Center, Back. You can also control Direction by moving the black circle icon on the preview.

    • Spread
Controls the length of the shadow. Ranges from Short for a tight, compact shadow to Long for a more extended, stretched shadow. You can also control Spread by moving the black circle icon on the preview.

    • Product orientation
Use to set the position of the shadow:

      • Auto
Photoroom automatically sets the shadow position based on its analysis of your image.

      • Upright
Tells Photoroom the object is standing vertically on its base. Photoroom then applies the shadow at the bottom of the object.

      • Flat
Tells Photoroom the object is laid flat on a horizontal surface. Photoroom then applies the shadow around the sides of the object. This is top-down or low-angle photography, commonly used with flat lay product images.

  5. Select the checkmark to confirm.

  6. Select Apply to batch to generate shadows for all images in the batch. This will cost AI credits. If you don't want to go ahead with the AI Shadows, select Cancel.

Note: On iOS, you can only apply AI shadows to the entire batch. You cannot apply the AI Shadows to a selection of the images in the batch.

Troubleshooting

If selecting None fails to remove the AI Shadow, try using the Undo feature to revert to a version of the image that had no shadow.
