Photoroom now uses a unified AI credits system for Max and Ultra. It replaces the previous system of having separate AI credit allowances for video and images.
Note: The AI allowance is also referred to as a "pool of AI credits".
In this article, we'll explain the changes and answer some common questions.
What has changed?
In previous versions of Photoroom, the Max and Ultra plans had two AI credit allowances:
AI credits for images
AI credits for video
This confused some of our users. It also meant that you couldn't use leftover video credits for generating images or leftover image credits for generating videos.
To solve these problems, we now have a single AI credits allowance. You can spend the credits however you like: all image, all video, or a mix of both.
Who is affected?
Max and Ultra plan subscribers.
Do you get the same amount of AI credits as before?
When combined with the increases we shipped earlier in 2026, the AI credit allowance is bigger than before.
Plan | AI credits |
Max | Your Max AI capacity is more than 2x what it was at the start of 2026.
Room for thousands of additional image generations or dozens of additional short videos every month, from one shared pool. |
Ultra (tier 1) | Your Ultra AI capacity is more than 50% larger than at the start of 2026.
Room for thousands of additional image generations or dozens of additional short videos every month, from one shared pool |
Ultra 2× | Your new unified pool is 20% larger than your previous image pool.
Room for hundreds more image generations or around a dozen more short videos each month. |
Ultra 5× | Your new unified pool is 20% larger than your previous image pool.
Room for thousands more image generations or dozens more short videos each month. |
Ultra 10× | Your new unified pool is 20% larger than your previous image pool.
Room for thousands more image generations or dozens more short videos each month. |
We do not publish exact generation counts because different AI features use different amounts of credits. Tracking your usage as a percentage in the app is the most accurate way to see what you have left.
What if your previous combined total was higher?
When combined, the previous AI credit allowances (video and image) totalled a higher number than the new allowance. But you could only spend video credits on video and image credits on images. They were not flexible.
The new unified AI allowance is flexible. Every credit can be used on image or video. For nearly all of our users, this means more usable capacity, not less.
Are the credit costs of each feature changing?
No. The cost per generation for each AI feature is staying the same. Only the AI credit allowance structure is changing (two allowances merge to become one) and the total allowance size is updated as described above.
Will AI credits renew on the same date?
Yes. Credits reset automatically on your billing cycle, exactly as before.
Why does Photoroom still show two separate AI allowances?
You may be on an older version of the app. Updating to the latest version of the app will show you the new unified balance. See Update to the latest version of Photoroom.
