Change a design using Edit with AI (Web App)

How to use a prompt to make changes to a design that already exists in Photoroom. Web App.

When you edit a design, there is an Edit with AI tool below the design, labelled Describe an edit. Use this tool to make changes to an existing design from a prompt. You describe the changes you want and Photoroom redraws the image with the changes in place.

2 images. Image 1 shows a design with a woman in jeans looking down. Image 2 shows the same woman looking at the camera and wearing plum chinos. The prompt describes the change.

In this article, we provide step-by-step instructions for using Edit with AI on a design on the Web App. For more general information about how Edit with AI works, see How to use Edit with AI.

Availability

  • All platforms.

  • For subscription tiers, see Pricing.

  • Requires AI credits.

  • Edit with AI is only available on foreground layers when editing a design. You can change Background layers separately.

Before you start

Before you begin, be aware that Edit with AI (when editing a design) works best with:

  • Minor changes to foreground layers

  • Changes that are within the layer boundaries

  • Images that have transparent backgrounds, single color backgrounds, or backgrounds that you can replace.

Note: Edit with AI cannot change the image beyond the existing layer boundary.

Steps (Web App)

To use Edit with AI to make changes to a design:

(Video has been edited to show faster AI generation times).

  1. Select the Space that contains the design you want to edit.

  2. Select Designs.

  3. Select the design you want to change to open it in the editor.

  4. Click on the foreground layer you want to change.

  5. Describe the changes you want in the Describe an edit field.

  6. Use the Quality option in the field to choose the image quality you want Photoroom to create.

To learn more about the image qualities, see Set the Quality of AI images.

  7. Select the arrow button to generate.

Photoroom redraws the foreground layer and applies the changes you described.

After editing an image

When you have finished editing the image:

  • Select Download to save the design as an image file on your device.

  • Select Home to exit the editor. Photoroom automatically saves the image as a design in the Space.

  • Select Share to share the design with colleagues in the Space or with other people.

Troubleshooting

Some changes not applied

If Photoroom does not include all of the changes you asked for, try again with a more detailed description. For advice on writing prompts, see Write more effective prompts for AI.

Foreground image is cropped

If the foreground layer is cropped, this is because of the layer boundaries. Edit with AI cannot edit beyond the boundaries.

You can work around this by exporting or downloading the original design as an image file. Then use the image file with the standalone Edit with AI tool, see Upload an image and Edit with AI (Web App).

Background has unwanted transparent areas

If you use Edit with AI on a multi-layered design, you may get unwanted transparent background areas. This happens because the transparent areas are where a foreground layer was previously.

You can work around this by exporting or downloading the original design as an image file. Then use the image file with the standalone Edit with AI tool, see Upload an image and Edit with AI (Web App). Alternatively, replace the background by selecting the background layer and then Use this background as inspiration or Change.
