When you add images to a batch in Batch Mode, Photoroom imports the images and removes their backgrounds. In most cases, it will do an excellent job first time. But with some more complicated images, it may produce unwanted results. To fix this, you can edit the individual image and use the Edit cutout tool.

The Edit cutout tool lets you remove or restore parts of a layer and you can use it on individual images, without affecting the rest of the batch.

A batch of images where one image needs to have part of the image removed. The Edit cutout feature is being used to remove the unwanted parts.

On iPhone and iPad

To remove or restore part of an image in a batch:

  1. Select Content.

  2. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  3. Select Batch.

  4. Select Start Batch.

  5. Select the images you want to include in your batch.

  6. Select Add to create the batch.

  7. Select the image that you want to change.

  8. Select the layer that has parts you want to remove or restore.

  9. Select Edit cutout.

  10. Look at the Cutout Suggestions. These are alternative edits and one of them might be perfect for your needs. If so, select the cutout suggestion and then skip to step 15.

  11. If the cutout suggestions are unsuitable, you can edit the image yourself. Select either:

    • Erase to remove parts of the image

    • Restore to restore parts of the image.

  12. Select either:

    • Assisted to use assisted mode, where you can tap on an area of the image and Photoroom will automatically select the pixels that will be removed/restored.

    • Manual to remove and restore only the parts of the image you select manually. This is often better when you need to edit with precision.

  13. If you selected Manual mode, use the Brush width slider to set the size of the brush tip.

  14. Draw over the area you want to remove/restore. If you are using Assisted mode, you can tap on the area rather than drawing over it.

Tips for drawing with Edit Cutout:

    • Use gestures to zoom in, zoom out, and pan the image

    • Zoomed in views let you remove and add parts of the image with more precision

    • Change the brush size for more precision at different zoom levels

    • Use the Undo arrow at the top to cancel the previous action

    • If you remove too much of the image, switch to Restore and draw it back in

  15. Select Done when you have finished removing/restoring the image.

Note: If the layer is now in an unsuitable position, select it and drag it to a better position. You can also use Crop to reduce the size of the object on the layer.

  16. Select X to exit the editor. Alternatively, select Next to move on to the next image in the batch and then select Done on the last image in the batch.

  17. Do NOT select apply to all. Select X or let the timer run down instead.

  18. [Optional] Use the other options to edit the images, for example, to add a background, and then select Export images to download them as image files.

Note: Images in Batch Mode are not saved as designs in your workspace.
