With the launch of powerful new AI capabilities, usage has surged. To keep Photoroom smooth and affordable for everyone, we’ve introduced limits.

The AI limits means we can:

  • Keep plans affordable for most users

  • Deliver higher-quality AI models for everyone

  • Invest in new features for high-volume sellers

  • Support advanced use cases at scale.

We believe this strikes the right balance between accessibility and sustainability — and we’re excited to keep delivering the best AI tools for you!

Note: The AI generation limits only apply to tools and features that use AI. Classic tools, like white backgrounds are not affected.

How do the AI generation limits work?

Each user is allocated an amount of AI generations for each AI feature. The amount varies depending on:

  • The type of AI feature

Typically, features that use more advanced models have lower limits. For example, Virtual Model has a lower limit than AI Backgrounds.

  • The user's subscription plan.

    • Free users have low limits and can only access certain AI features

    • Pro users have much significantly higher limits than free users and can access most AI features

    • Max users have significantly higher limits than Pro users and can access all AI features.

When you use an AI feature, it counts towards your limit for that feature. For example, if you are using AI Backgrounds with the Studio model and select Generate more, Photoroom will generate 2 more images. This counts as 2 AI generations.

Note: Some features, such as Virtual Model and Product Beautifier, have a time limit. You can only use them once per minute. Again, the app will display a message if you try to use a feature too many times in a minute.

What happens if you reach your AI generation limit?

Photoroom will display an in-app message when you get close to your AI limit for a feature. If you reach the limit, it will display another in-app message and will not allow you to generate any more images with that feature unless you:

When do the AI generation limits reset?

The AI generation limit resets weekly.

If you reach the limit, the in-app message will tell you when the limit will reset for that feature.

What counts as an AI generation in Photoroom?

Every time Photoroom generates an image for an AI feature, it counts towards the AI generation limit (for that feature).

For example, if you are using AI Backgrounds with the Studio model and select Generate more, Photoroom will generate 2 more images — this counts as 2 AI generations.

What are the exact numbers for the AI generation limits?

The AI generation limits can fluctuate due to the rapidly changing costs of generative AI tools. For this reason, we are unable to provide exact numbers for the limits. But the limits will always be higher for paying subscribers:

  • Max plan has considerably higher AI generation limits than Pro. Typically 2× or 3× higher.

  • Pro plan has considerably higher AI generation limits that Free

  • Free plan has low AI generation limits.

By taking this flexible approach, we’ll be able to increase your limits when the cost of AI generation goes down.

How do AI generation limits apply in team workspaces?

In a team workspace, the AI generation limits are based on the type of user you are in that team. To find out more, see AI generation limits for teams.
