One way to reuse an AI Background on many designs is to make a template that has the AI Background. You can then upload your photos, let Photoroom remove their background, and then choose to apply your template.

3 images of different colored sports shoes. Each shoe is on a cloud with a blue sky in the background. The backgrounds are similar but not identical.

Be aware that using a template with an AI background creates designs that have similar, but not identical, AI backgrounds. The AI fine-tunes the background to suit each foreground object in each image, considering the lighting, color scheme, and more. So you get a series of images that look like part of the same photoshoot, but are each slightly different.

To create and apply a template with an AI Background:

  1. Create a design that has an AI Background. If you already have one, you can skip this step.

    For instructions, see:

  2. Create a template:

    1. Turn a design with an AI Background into a template

    2. Edit the template and make the foreground object replaceable.

    3. Save the template.

For details, see Turn a design into a template.

  3. Start a new photo import and allow Photoroom to remove the background.

If you are using the iOS or Android version of Photoroom, do not select Skip background removal.

  4. Apply the template you created:

    • On iOS, select the custom template from the list

    • On Android, select the custom template from the list

    • On the Web App, select Templates and then select your custom template.

  5. [Optional] Use the editor to make any further changes, such as add text or graphics.

Tip: For some AI Backgrounds, you may want to customise the prompt so that it more closely matches the original AI Background from the template.

  6. Export or Download your design and exit the editor to save it.

  7. Repeat steps 3-6 inclusive for each photo that you want to have the AI Background.

Tip: If you have a high number of images that need to use a similar AI background, consider creating a template and then using the Batch feature to apply it. For instructions, see Apply a template to multiple images.
