AI Backgrounds lets you transform your images with an AI-generated backdrop. Upload your design, describe the type of background you’re looking for, and Photoroom will generate it for you.
If you're not sure about the type of background you want, you can choose from a list of background themes instead.
In this article, we explain how to create a design with an AI background using the iOS version of Photoroom. If you're using the Android or Web App version, see:

On iPhone and iPad
To create a design that has an AI Background:
Select the Space you want to work in.
Select AI Tools.
Select AI Backgrounds.
Upload a photo or Generate an image with AI.
Photoroom creates 2 images with AI Backgrounds. If you are happy to use one of these images, skip ahead to step 9.
[Optional] Use the AI Backgrounds setting at the top to change the AI model that's used to generate the images.
[Optional] Use the Resize feature (top-right) to set the size of the images
[Optional] To make changes to the photo, select Subject.
Use Edit Cutout to add or remove parts of the original image. This works in the same way as Edit Cutout elsewhere (see Add and remove parts of an image with Edit Cutout).
Use Change to swap the image for a different image.
Use the slider to change the size of the image on the canvas.
To generate more images with different backgrounds, either:
Enter a description of the background you want in the prompt field and then select the arrow to generate.
Select the Background option and choose from the list of suggested background themes.
Note: AI Backgrounds can use a combination of a text prompt and a chosen Background. For details, see How the AI Backgrounds prompt works.
When you have an image you are happy with, select it.
Either:
Select Open in editor if you want to use the main editor to make changes, such as add text or other images to the design.
When you have finished editing, select Export to save your design.
Select Save to download the image as an image file.
