Change the background of Shopify product images (iOS)

How to change the background of a Product Catalog image to a single color, an image, or an AI-generated image. iOS.

Use the Background setting to change the background of product images for Shopify. You can swap the background for:

  • A single color

  • A static image

  • An AI-generated image.

The background you choose will apply to all of the images for the selected product.


Availability

  • Photoroom for Shopify must be connected to your Shopify store

  • Publishing to Shopify requires a Max or Ultra subscription.

  • AI Backgrounds consume AI credits.


Steps (iOS)

Follow the steps below to change the background of your product images for Shopify. You can swap the background for a static image, an AI-generated background or a color. In the video, we show all of these possibilities.

Access the Background settings

  1. Select any of the product images.
    Photoroom opens all of the product's images in the Product Catalog Editor.

  2. Select Background.

  3. Select Remove original background.

  4. Select Background.

From here, you can choose whether you want to replace the background with an image, an AI-generated image, or a color. If you prefer, you can restore the original background. See the sections below for instructions.


Replace the background with an image

To replace the background with an image:

  1. Access the Background settings.

  2. Select Image.

  3. Select an image to use as the background.

Photoroom applies the background to the images.


Replace the background with an AI Image

To replace the background with an AI-generated image:

  1. Access the Background settings.

  2. Select AI.

  3. Use the AI Backgrounds settings to choose the AI model and the type of background. You can also enter a prompt to describe the background you want.

  4. Select the arrow button to generate an image.

  5. When you have a background you are happy with, select it.

  6. Control how the background is applied with Batch consistency:

    • Turn Batch consistency on if you want the exact same background on all product images.

    • Turn Batch consistency off to let the AI fine-tune the background to suit the colors, lighting, and shadows for each image.

  7. Select Apply to batch.


Replace the background with a color

To replace the background with a color:

  1. Access the Background settings.

  2. Select one of the color options:

    • Transparent
      For a transparent background.

    • White
      For a white background.

    • Black
      For a black background.

    • Color wheel
      For a color background. Select a color from the chart or select the color wheel and use the color selector to pick a color. For details, see Color selectors (iOS).


Restore the original background

If you have removed the original background but want to bring it back:

  1. Access the Background settings.

  2. Select Restore original background.


When you have finished

​When you have chosen a background color:

  1. [Optional] Make additional changes using the Shopify Products editor.

  2. When you have finished editing, publish your changes to Shopify.
