Show clothing on a Virtual Model (Android)

Learn how to turn a clothing photo into stylish images of the clothing worn by a Virtual Model

Virtual Model transforms any clothing photo into a polished, photoshoot-ready image. It places your garments on realistic models and lets you mix and match different models, poses, and backgrounds to create a variety of standout visuals.

Note: Virtual Model images can have differences to the original photo, especially with more complex patterns, shapes and text. Be aware that Virtual Model images are "interpretations" of the source content and are not always exact matches.​

On Android

To turn a photo of clothing into a design featuring a virtual model wearing similar clothing:

As there are many features you can use with Virtual Models, we have split the instructions into stages:

Stage 1: Upload a clothing photo and generate a Virtual Model image

The first step is to upload your clothing photo to the Virtual Model feature.

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI tools.

  3. Select Virtual Model.

    If you can't see the Virtual Model option, select the See more button to see a full list of the AI tools. Select Virtual Model from there.

  4. Select a clothing photo to upload.

  5. Either:

    1. Select the arrow button to generate images. It will use the default Virtual Model settings or the settings that were in place the previous time you used Virtual Model.

    2. Use the prompt field and the settings to define what you want (see Stage 2).

Stage 2: Tell Photoroom what you want

Use the settings to tell Photoroom what you want in your image.

  1. [Optional] Enter a description in the prompt field. For example, "Add window in background".

  2. Select Subject and upload a different clothing image.

  3. Select Model and choose a different Virtual Model.

    You can choose any from the list or select Custom and upload a photo of your own choice.

  4. Select Pose and choose a preferred position for the model.

  5. Select Background and choose a category of AI background.

    You can also choose Custom and then upload a background photo of your own choice.

  6. Use Size to set the dimensions of the image. Choose from Square, Portrait, or Landscape.

  7. Select the arrow button to generate images with your changes in place.

Stage 3: Final edits and save

When you have a Virtual Model you are happy with, select it and follow the steps below:

  1. [Optional] Make further changes.

    Either:

    • Enter a description of the change you want in the prompt field and then select the arrow button to generate an updated image.

    • Select Open in editor to open the image in the main editor. Photoroom will remove the background automatically. To keep the background, select Skip background removal while the background removal is in progress.

      You can use the main editor to add text, change the background, insert graphics and logos, and more. Note that the foreground layer and its editing options are shown by default. Deselect it to show the main editor options, such as Insert and Layers.

  2. Select Save to save the image as a design in the Space and also as an image file on your device.

    Note: If you opened the design in the main editor, select Export instead of Save.

  3. [Optional] Use Create animation to make an animated version of your design.

  4. [Optional] Use Share image to send an image file of your design to other people. You can send it using AirDrop, Email, messages, social media, and other apps.

  5. [Optional] Select Send link to share a link to your design with other people. You can send the link using AirDrop, Email, messages, social media, and other apps.

Tip: To use your virtual model design with a template, export the design as an image file. Then select New design and import the image file. When the image has imported, select a template from the list. Photoroom opens your design in the editor with the template applied. You can use the editing features to make further changes if needed.
