This guide walks you through the most common ways to work in Photoroom using the Web App. It shows the typical steps for creating and editing designs so you know where to start and what to do next.

You’ll learn the common workflows for:

  • Creating a new design from a photo

  • Editing an existing design

  • Generating an image using AI.

Follow the workflow that matches what you want to do. You can also find example videos and links to articles that provide more detailed instructions.

Note: If you're going to use Batch to edit multiple images at once, the workflow is different. For instructions, see Edit multiple images at once with the Batch feature (Web App).

Workflow 1: Create a new design from a photo

To create a simple new design based on a photo, the workflow is:

Space → Create → Select photos → Edit → Download → Home

(Video shows AI generation edited to complete faster)

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. On the Create screen, click Select photos and upload a photo.

Photoroom will remove the background of your image automatically and open it in the editor.

  3. Use the editor to make changes. There are many changes you can make, including:

    • Insert another image or graphic

    • Add text

    • Apply a template to give your design a pre-made background (and possibly other layers too)

    • Add an image, color, or AI-generated image from the Backgrounds

    • Add AI Shadow effects

    • Resize the image for different outputs.

    • Select a layer and then use the layer settings to make changes, such as remove parts of the layer, add effects, or change the lighting.

    • Enter a prompt to change your design using AI.

  4. Download your design to store it on your device as an image file.

  5. Select Home to exit the editor and save your design.

Workflow 2: Edit an existing design

To edit a design that is saved in a Space, the workflow is:

Space → Designs → Edit → Download → Home
  1. Select the Space that contains the design you want to edit.

  2. Select Designs.

  3. Select the design to open it in the editor.

  4. Use the editor to make changes.

  5. Download your design to store it on your device as an image file.

  6. Select Home to exit the editor and save your design.

Workflow 3: Generate an AI image

To use an AI Tool to generate an image, the workflow is:

Space → AI Tools → Upload → Settings → Generate → Edit → Download → Home

Some AI Tools need you to upload an image as a starting point.

(Video shows AI generation edited to complete faster)

  1. Select the Space that you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. If the AI Tool requires an image as a starting point, upload an image.

  4. Use the settings to set your preferences and enter a prompt where available.

  5. Generate one or more images.

  6. Select the image you want to use.

  7. [Optional] Use the settings to make further changes:

    • Remove background - Choose whether to remove the background or keep it.

    • Change something - Change the image using an AI prompt.

    • Retouch - Use the Retouch tool to remove part of the image.

    • Edit cutout - Use to remove or restore parts of the image.

    • Resize - Use to change the image dimensions.

  8. [Optional] Select Use this image to open the design in the main editor. Use the main editor to make further changes.

  9. Download your design to store it on your device as an image file.

  10. Select Home to exit the editor and save your design.
