Add or change objects with Retouch (iOS)

Learn how to add objects to a specific area of a design or change a specific area using the Retouch feature. iOS.

You can use Retouch to add or change a photo, as well as remove an object. It works similar to the Edit with AI feature, except that:

  • You select a specific area of the image that you want to change.

  • The AI will only generate an image in the selected area.

For example, in the image below, we used Retouch to draw over an area near the model's hand. We then used a prompt to add a black bag.

Using the Retouch tool to add or change objects (iOS)

To use the Retouch tool to add or change objects in a specific area of an image:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Retouch.

  4. Upload a photo to work on.

  5. Select the Add tab.

  6. Use the slider to set the brush size.

  7. Draw over the area you want to contain the new object or changes.

    To draw more precisely, use pinch gestures to zoom in and out of the image.

  8. Enter a description of the new object or change in the prompt field. Select the arrow button to generate.

  9. Either:

    1. Choose the generated image.

    2. Select the pencil icon to edit the prompt. After editing, select the arrow button to generate a new image.

    3. Select the + icon to generate more variations using the same prompt.

    4. Select Clear to cancel the change and return to the original image.

  10. Select Apply to proceed with your chosen image.

  11. [Optional] Use Erase or Add to make further changes using the Retouch tool.

  12. Select Done to exit Retouch.

  13. [Optional] Use the editor to make further changes such as add text or graphics.

  14. Select Save to save the design in Photoroom and as an image file on your device. There are also options to share your design and to use it to create a video.

  15. Select Close design to exit the editor.


Retouch an image while editing (iOS)

To use Retouch while editing a design:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Either:

    • Create a new design and upload a photo.

    • Select Content and then select an existing design to open it in the editor.

  3. In the editor, select the layer that contains the object you want to remove.

  4. Select Retouch in the layer settings.

  5. Select the Add tab.

  6. Use the slider to set the brush size.

  7. Draw over the area you want to contain the new object or changes.

    To draw more precisely, use pinch gestures to zoom in and out of the image.

  8. Enter a description of the new object or change in the prompt field. Select the arrow button to generate.

  9. Either:

    1. Choose one of the generated images.

    2. Select the pencil icon to edit the prompt. After editing, select the arrow button to generate a new image.

    3. Select the + icon to generate more variations using the same prompt.

    4. Select Clear to cancel the change and return to the original image.

  10. Select Done to proceed with your chosen image.

  11. [Optional] Use Erase or Add to make further changes using the Retouch tool.

  12. Select Done to exit Retouch.

  13. [Optional] Use the editor to make further changes such as add text or graphics.

  14. Select Save to save the design in Photoroom and as an image file on your device. There are also options to share your design and to use it to create a video.

  15. Select Close design to exit the editor.
