Add or change objects with Retouch (Android)

Learn how to add objects to a specific area of a design or change a specific area using the Retouch feature. Android.

You can use Retouch to add and change an area of an image as well as erase objects. It works in a similar way to Edit with AI, except that you choose which area of the image Photoroom will change.

  • You "paint" over the area where the new object or change will appear

  • You describe what you want to add or change in a prompt

  • Photoroom makes the changes and blends the background to make the image look realistic.

For example, in the image below, we used Retouch to draw over an area near the model's hand. We then used a prompt to add a black bag.

Note: Retouch is available as a dedicated standalone tool (for new designs) and as a feature within the editor (for existing designs). In this article, we cover both ways of using Retouch for adding and changing.


Availability

Adding and changing objects with Retouch is available on iOS and Android only.

Not currently available on the Web App.

Requires AI credits.

Steps

To use Retouch to add or change a specific area of an image, there are two stages:

  1. Access Retouch.

    There are two ways to access it:

    • Use the standalone Retouch tool (requires you to upload an image)

    • Open a design in the editor and use Retouch in the layer settings (for editing new or existing designs)

  2. Use the Retouch settings to add or change an area of the image.

Access the Retouch tool

To use the standalone Retouch tool:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI tools.

  3. Select Retouch.

  4. Upload the image you want to edit.

Access Retouch in the editor

To access Retouch while editing a new or existing design:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Create a new design and open it in the editor.

    Alternatively, select Content and select an existing design to edit.

  3. Select the layer you want to edit.

  4. Select Retouch.

Use Retouch to add or change

When you have opened the Retouch feature:

Retouch settings on Android. It has a slider, Erase tab, Add tab, and Done option.

  1. Select the Add tab.

  2. Use the slider to set the brush size.

    Tip: Choose a brush size that will let you paint precisely over the area where the new object or change will appear.

  3. Paint over the area where you want the new object or change to appear.

  4. Enter a prompt. Describe what you want Photoroom to add or change and select the arrow button to generate.

  5. [Optional] Make further changes:

    • Select + to generate another image using the same prompt

    • Select the pencil icon to change your prompt and generate a new image based on your updated prompt.

  6. When you are happy with the image, select Done.

    Photoroom returns you to Retouch.​

  7. Select Done to return to the editor.

  8. [Optional] Use the editor to make further changes, such as adding text or graphics.

  9. [Optional] Select Export to save the image as a design in Photoroom and download it to your device.

  10. Select X or Close design to exit the editor.
