This article explains how to start a new design on the Android version of Photoroom. It covers the steps for:
Uploading a photo
Removing the photo's background
Choosing the starting point for your design
Opening the design in an editor
Saving and downloading your design.
Steps (Android)
Follow the steps below to start a new design from scratch. The video shows starting a new design and choosing a template as the starting point, with changing the background and adding a shadow as editing steps.
Stage 1: Create a new design and upload a photo
On the Home screen, select the Space you want to work in.
Still on the Home screen, select Start from a photo.
Provide a source image. This is the image Photoroom will use as a starting point. You can upload a photo, choose an image that already exists in Photoroom, or use an AI tool to Generate an image.

Photoroom automatically starts to remove the background from your image. If you want to keep the background, select Skip background removal.
Next, you need to choose how you want to proceed.
Stage 2: Choose how to proceed
When you have provided a source image, Photoroom displays a screen showing many possible options. You need to either:
Choose a tool to use with your image
Choose a template to use with your image.
At the top, there are categories which act like filters for the screen. For example, if you select Listing, the screen changes so that it only shows options relating to product listings.
The Recommended edits section contains shortcuts to commonly used Photoroom tools and features. For example, if you choose Ghost Mannequin, Photoroom opens your image in the Ghost Mannequin tool.
Note: The Edit with AI section is a shortcut to the Edit with AI tool.
The other sections are for templates and they include, Shopify spotlight, Recent Space templates, Classic, and more. Each template sets a canvas size and background for your design. Some templates add foreground layers as well.
If you choose a template, Photoroom will create a design that is based on the template and it will add your image to the design. You can then edit it, if needed.
Stage 3: Edit the image
When you have selected a tool/feature or a template, Photoroom opens your design in the appropriate editor. Use the editor settings to make changes to your image.

Stage 4: Export your design
When you have finished editing, select Export to download your design. When you export, there are options to save your design and to share it with other people and apps.
Saving your design stores it in Photoroom and you can find it in the Content area for the Space you were working in.
