With AI Backgrounds, you can get Photoroom to automatically generate a background based on a description. Just enter the description, called a prompt, and Photoroom will turn it into a stylish background for your design. It's time to unleash your creativity!
On iPhone and iPad

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone)
Select Content.
Select the workspace you want to work in.
Select New design and upload an image to Photoroom.
Alternatively, select an existing design to open it in the editor. You can create a custom AI background for existing designs too.
Select AI Backgrounds.
Note: If you are editing an existing design, select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.
[Optional] Use the menu at the top to select the AI model Photoroom should use to generate the background.
Note: If you use the Studio HD or Studio AI models, there are limits to how many AI backgrounds it can generate each day. To learn more, see AI models for AI backgrounds.
Select Create a background.
[Optional] Select a suggested prompt description. Photoroom will then generate 2 images based on the prompt term you suggested.
At that point, you can use either of the images, choose to Generate more, or change the prompt and generate some alternatives. You can also use an image as inspiration.
Enter your own prompt and press the arrow button. A prompt is a text description of the background you want the AI to generate.
Your description should give the AI information about the tone as well as the content and colors of the image. For example, "A luxurious, opulent background with rich textures and colors, gold or silver accents".
When you press the arrow button, Photoroom generates 2 images. At that point, you can use either of the images, choose to Generate more, or change the prompt and generate some alternatives. You can also use an image as inspiration.
When you have an AI background you are happy with, select the image to open it as a design in the editor.
[Optional] Use the editor features to make further changes, such as add text, change colors, and resize the design.
Note: If you move the foreground layer or add other layers, the AI background will regenerate and may change. This is intentional. The AI background is designed to adapt so that it remains suitable.
[Optional] Select Export to download the design as an image file. You can also use the export options to share your design with other people.
Select X to save your design and exit the editor.
Note: If you want to use the same AI background on multiple images, see Use the same AI background on multiple designs. We also have a video about reusing AI backgrounds on our YouTube channel.

Next, you need to use either an Assisted prompt (see step 7) or a Manual prompt (see step 8).
To create an assisted prompt that follows a set structure, use the Assisted tab.
The assisted prompt structure is "Your subject on <something> with <something> in the background", where you can type a description to replace <something> or you can select one of the pre-made terms shown as tags below each field.
For example:
"Your subject on a glass surface with a city skyline in the background."
To create a free-flowing prompt with no set structure, use the Manual tab.
Enter a description in the field. Your description should give the AI information about the tone as well as the content and colors of the image. For example, "A luxurious, opulent background with rich textures and colors, gold or silver accents".
When you have a prompt, select Generate images. Photoroom will then generate 2 images based on the prompt term you suggested.
