Show clothing on a Virtual Model (iOS)

Learn how to turn a clothing photo into stylish images of the clothing worn by a Virtual Model. iOS.

Virtual Model transforms clothing photos into a polished, photoshoot-ready image. It places your garments on realistic models and lets you mix and match different models, poses, and backgrounds to create a variety of standout visuals.

Note: Virtual Model images can have differences to the original photo, especially with more complex patterns, shapes and text. Be aware that Virtual Model images are "interpretations" of the source content and are not always exact matches.​

On iPhone and iPad

To turn clothing photos into a design that shows a Virtual Model wearing the clothes:

As there are many features you can use with Virtual Models, we have split the instructions into 4 stages.


Stage 1: Upload clothing photos

Upload your clothing photos to the Virtual Model feature:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI tools.

  3. Select Virtual Model.

    If you can't see the Virtual Model option, select the See more button to see a full list of the AI tools. Select Virtual Model from there.

  4. Select a clothing photo to upload.​


Stage 2: Tell Photoroom what you want

Use the settings to tell Photoroom what you want in your image.

  1. [Optional] Enter a description in the prompt field. For example, "Add window in background".

  2. [Optional] Use Product to add, remove, or replace product images. Select the checkmark icon to confirm your choices.

    • Select + to upload an additional clothing photo

    • Select the trash can icon to remove a photo from your selection

    • Select Replace to swap a photo for a different photo.

  3. Select Model and choose a Virtual Model from the list.

    To use your own model, select Custom and upload a model photo.

  4. Select Background and choose a category of AI background.

    To use your own background, choose Custom and then upload a background photo from your Camera roll or Files. Alternatively, select Camera to take a photo to upload or use Generate and then use an AI Tool to create an image.

  5. Use Pose to choose a preferred position for the model.

  6. Use Size to set the dimensions of the image. Choose from Square, Portrait, or Landscape sizes.

  7. Select the Brand icon to choose whether the brand description for the Space will influence the AI:

    • Apply brand style - Turn it on if you want the Virtual Model AI to be influenced by the brand description. Turn it off to ignore the brand description.

    • Brand description - Shows the current brand description (if any) for the Space. This comes from the Brand Kit. If you make changes to the description here, they are also made to the brand kit and will affect the entire Space.

  8. Choose the quality of image you want (quality option is at top of screen):

    • Standard
      1k resolution, requires Pro subscription, consumes less AI credits.

    • Advanced
      2k resolution, requires Max subscription, consumes more AI credits.

    • Premium
      4k+ resolution, requires Ultra subscription, consumes most AI credits.

  9. Select the arrow button to generate a new image with your changes in place.

  10. [Optional] Use the settings again and generate more images until you have an image you are happy with.

    Tip: You can make changes to the original prompt or use the Edit with AI feature. Edit with AI is available from the context menu for each generated image.


Stage 3: Generate images from different angles [optional]

You can generate more versions of an image, with the model and scene shown from different angles:

  1. Select the context menu for a generated Virtual Model image.

  2. Select the Other angles option.
    Photoroom generates more images that use the same model and background, but shown from different angles and in different poses.

Tip: To use several of the different angle images, select one and export it (see Stage 4). Then close it to return to the generated images, where you can select one of the other angles to export.


Stage 4: Final edits and save

When you have a Virtual Model you are happy with, select it and follow the steps below:

  1. [Optional] Select Video to use the Video Generator to create a short video clip from your image.

    To learn about the Video Generator, see Create a video from a photo (iOS).

  2. [Optional] Use Other angles to generate an image that shows a different viewpoint. This works in the same way as in Stage 3.

  3. [Optional] Use the prompt to describe any changes you want the AI to make and select the arrow button to regenerate.

  4. Either:

    • Select Open in editor and use the main editor features to make further changes, such as adding text and graphics.

      When you have finished editing, select Save.

    • Select Save to store your image on your device and save it as a design in Photoroom.

  5. Select Close design to exit.

You can now use your downloaded file in other applications. Your design is available in the Space's Content in Photoroom.

Tip: To use your virtual model design with a template, export the design as an image file. Then select New design and import the image file. When the import is complete, select a template from the list. Photoroom opens your design in the editor with the template applied. You can use the editing features to make further changes if needed.
