Photoroom’s Edit with AI feature lets you describe the changes you want to make using a text prompt. Photoroom then generates a new image based on your prompt and the original image.

You can use Edit with AI in two ways:

  • As an AI Tool, where you upload an image and enter a prompt.

  • Inside the editor, so you can apply AI edits while you’re already working on your design.

Requires AI credits.

Note: In this article, we explain how to use Edit with AI on the Web App version of Photoroom. If you're using Android, see Make changes using Edit with AI (Android). If you're using iOS, see Make changes using Edit with AI (iOS).

Using the Edit with AI tool

To use the Edit with AI tool on the Web App:

  1. Select the Space you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Edit with AI.

If you can't see the Edit with AI option, select See all to display a full list of the tools.

  4. Upload an image.

    Either:

    • Drag-and-drop an image file into the box.

    • Click on the Select images link, browse to the image file and select it.

  5. [Optional] Select the size option and choose the dimensions:

    • Square

    • Portrait (2:3)

    • Landscape (3:2)

  6. [Optional] Select the brand icon and choose whether you want to Apply brand style.

The brand style is a description of your brand that is usually created when you set up your brand kit. If you apply the brand style, it means the description will influence the AI when generating your image.

Note: If you change the brand style description in the box, the changes apply to the entire Space.

  7. Enter a description of the changes you want in the prompt field and select the arrow button to generate.

Photoroom will generate two new images. If you need to make further changes, you can repeat this step (or select the context menu for an image and use the Edit with AI option).

  8. [Optional] Select the context menu for an image and use the options to make changes:

    • Other angles - Create alternative viewpoints of the image.

    • Generate video - Create a video from the image using the Video generator.

    • Delete - Remove the image from the Edit with AI history.

    • Download - Download the image to your device.

  9. Select an image.

  10. [Optional] Use the options to make further changes:

    • Remove background - Toggles background removal on and off

    • Retouch - Use the Retouch tool to remove unwanted parts of the image

    • Edit cutout - Use to Erase or Restore parts of the image

    • Resize - Use to change the image dimensions

  11. [Optional] Select Use this image to open the image in the main editor, where you can add text, graphics, blur effects and more.

  12. Select Download to export your design. Enter a name for the file, choose the file type, and then select Download to confirm.

  13. Select Home to save your design and exit.

Using Edit with AI on existing images

The Edit with AI feature is available as a tool (see section above) and also as an editing feature. It is an option in various places, including:

  • Context menus for images that are generated in AI Tools

  • Some layers in the editor.

Note: Edit with AI may also be labelled as Describe a change or Change something.

A result in an AI Tools feature. Its context menu contains a change something option, which is highlighted.

To make a change, enter a description in the Describe a change field and select the arrow button (or Change) to generate an image.

Layer selected in the main editor. It has a Describe a change setting which is the same as Edit with AI.
