As part of our commitment to making Photoroom even better, we occasionally release new AI models. Your Photoroom app will update automatically to use the new AI model (if it is available for your device). But you also have the option to switch to another AI model if you prefer.

Why would you switch to an older model?

When you are using AI Backgrounds, you need to consider what is most important to you:

  • For the highest quality AI Backgrounds, use the latest AI model

The latest AI model is capable of higher quality images and is more responsive to prompts. But it takes longer to generate the images.

  • For faster AI Background generation, but at a lower quality, switch to an earlier AI model.

Older AI models may produce lower quality images that don't match your prompts as well. But they should generate faster than the newer AI models.

On iPhone and iPad

Note: You can only switch between AI background versions if your device is running iOS version 5.9.8 or later.

To switch from one version of the AI backgrounds model to another on iPhone and iPad:

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone)

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content.

  2. Select Preferences.

  3. Select AI Backgrounds version.

  4. Choose the version you want.

  5. This step only applies if you selected an earlier version. Choose the duration for the earlier version:

    • 1 Day

    • 1 Week

  6. Select Preferences and then Back to return to Your Content.

Photoroom will use the AI model you selected. If you chose an earlier AI model, it will use that model for 1 Day or 1 Week, depending on your selection. At the end of the 1 Day or 1 Week period, Photoroom will automatically switch back to using the latest AI model.

You can repeat the steps above to switch to a different AI model at any time.

Note: When you switch from one version to another, the switch only applies to your device. The switch does not apply cross-platform and does not affect other users in your team.

Note: It is also possible to set the AI model for AI Backgrounds in the AI Backgrounds preferences, where you can also set default sizes (see Set the default sizes for AI Backgrounds).

On Android
