As part of our commitment to making Photoroom even better, we occasionally release new AI models. Your Photoroom app will update automatically to use the new AI model (if it is available for your device). But you also have the option to switch to another AI model if you prefer.

Why switch to a different AI model?

There are many reasons why you might want to switch AI model:

  • You want better quality images that are more responsive to your prompts.
    Switch to newer AI model.

  • You want faster image generation, with lower quality images.
    Switch to older AI model.

  • You are using an older device.

  • You have upgraded to a newer device.
    Switch to newer AI model.

  • You have reached the daily generation limit for your AI model.
Upgrade your plan to Max to raise the limit or switch to older AI model with no limits, but lower quality images.

On iPhone and iPad

Note: You can only switch between AI background versions if your device is running iOS version 5.9.8 or later.

To switch from one version of the AI backgrounds model to another on iPhone and iPad:

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone)

  1. On the Create page, select Your Content.

  2. Select Preferences.

  3. Select AI Backgrounds version.

  4. Choose the version you want.

  5. This step only applies if you selected an earlier version. Choose the duration for the earlier version:

    • 1 Day

    • 1 Week

  6. Select Preferences and then Back to return to Your Content.

Photoroom will use the AI model you selected. If you chose an earlier AI model, it will use that model for 1 Day or 1 Week, depending on your selection. At the end of the 1 Day or 1 Week period, Photoroom will automatically switch back to using the latest AI model.

You can repeat the steps above to switch to a different AI model at any time.

Note: When you switch from one version to another, the switch only applies to your device. The switch does not apply cross-platform and does not affect other users in your team.

Note: It is also possible to set the AI model for AI Backgrounds in the AI Backgrounds preferences, where you can also set default sizes (see Set the default sizes for AI Backgrounds).
