Did you know that Photoroom's Virtual Model feature lets you model clothes on anybody? All you need is a:

  • Photo of the clothing

  • Photo of the person that you want to model the clothing.

That's all you need to create a "virtual try on" experience!

3 images. Image 1 shows a regular photo of a man. Image 2 shows a product photo of a floral shirt. Image 3 shows an AI rendition of the man from Image 1 wearing a shirt similar to the shirt in Image 2.

Virtual Model with a custom model. (1: photo of person, 2: photo of clothing, 3: Virtual Model image of person wearing similar clothing).

When using Virtual Model with custom models, be aware that:

  • Important! You must own the copyright to the photos you upload and have the permission of the people in the photos (unless they are free for commercial use).

  • AI images are "interpretations" of the source content and are not exact matches.

  • Clothing photos will usually result in a full body shot or medium shot to show the model wearing the clothing.

  • There are limits on how many Virtual Model images you can generate. For details, see Export limits and AI generation limits.

On iPhone and iPad

Here, we're going to show you how to do a virtual try on using an iOS device. We won't go into details about all of the options available, as they are the same as Virtual Model (see Show clothing on an AI virtual model).

(Video shows Photoroom on iPhone. AI generations have been speeded up).

  1. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  2. Select AI Tools.

  3. Select Virtual Model.

  4. Upload your clothing photo.

Photoroom will automatically generate 2 images using the settings that are in place.

  5. Select Model.

  6. Select Custom.

  7. Upload your photo of the person you want to model the clothing.

  8. [Optional] Use the Virtual Model settings to control the appearance:

    • Text prompt to describe a change that the AI will try to apply to the image.

    • Subject to change the clothing photo.

    • Model to change the model photo.

    • Pose to choose a pose for the model.

    • Background to choose a type of background image.

    • Size to choose the dimensions (Square, Portrait, Landscape).

  9. Select the purple and white arrow button to generate two images.

  10. Either:

    • Select one of the images. This is the best approach if one of the images is close to what you want. You will get a chance to further change the image with AI later.

    • Select the arrow button again to generate more images. When you see an image you like, select it. Be aware that every generation counts towards your AI generation limit.

  11. When you have an image that you like (or even one that is close to what you want), select it.

  12. [Optional] Use Remove background to include or exclude the AI background from the design.

  13. [Optional] To make changes to the image, enter a description of the changes in the text prompt field and then select the arrow button.

  14. Select Export.
Photoroom saves your design and saves it as an image on your device (by default).

  15. [Optional] Use Create animation to make an animated version of your design. (Max plan only).

  16. [Optional] Use Share image to send an image file of your design to other people. You can send it using AirDrop, Email, messages, social media, and other apps.

  18. Select X to exit.

  19. Select Cancel to exit Virtual Model.
