In this article, we explain how to change the background of Product Catalog images using the Photoroom Web App. For the background, you can choose:
A single color
An image that you upload
An AI-generated image.
Note: This article assumes you have already connected Photoroom to your Shopify store.
Steps: AI Backgrounds (Web App)
Automatically generate backgrounds that complement your product’s colors and lighting.
Open your Product Catalog and select the product you want to edit.
Select the images you want to edit.

Select Background.
Make sure Remove original backgrounds is on.
Select AI.
Choose an AI model:
Studio - newest model, often best results, uses more AI credits.
v3/v2 - older models that use fewer AI credits.
Either:
Enter a description in the prompt field.
Select Background and pick a theme from the available categories.
Search for an image on Unsplash (v3 and v2 only).
Select Background and then Start with and Upload your own image.
Select Background and then Start with and choose one of your Recent AI Backgrounds.
Select the arrow button to generate. Generating AI Backgrounds uses AI credits.
Choose a result and apply it to your Product Catalog images.
[Optional] Make additional changes using the Product Catalog Editor.
When you have finished editing, publish your changes to Shopify.
Steps: Color backgrounds (Web App)
Use a single color background for clean, minimalist product images that highlight your product and maintain brand consistency.
Open your Product Catalog and select the product you want to edit.
Select the images you want to edit.

Select Background.
Make sure Remove original backgrounds is on.
Select Color.
Choose a color by either:
Selecting a color from a palette.
Using the color wheel
Entering Hex, RGB, or HSL values
Using the eyedropper to pick a color on your screen.
[Optional] Make additional changes using the Product Catalog Editor.
When you have finished editing, publish your changes to Shopify.

Steps: Image backgrounds (Web App)
Replace the background with a custom or stock image to create lifestyle or studio scenes.
Open your Product Catalog and select the product you want to edit.
Select the images you want to edit.

Select Background.
Make sure Remove original backgrounds is on.
Select Image.
Select Choose an image.
Either:
Upload your own image (Start with category).
Choose a Recommended image (Start with category).
Select from categories such as Studio, Wood, or Marble.
Search for images on Unsplash or Pixabay.
[Optional] Use the Adjust options to change the appearance of the background. This is where you can change settings such as Brightness, Warmth, and Contrast.
[Optional] Use the Blur settings to apply blur effects.

[Optional] Use the Filter settings to apply a filter effect to the background.
[Optional] Make additional changes using the Product Catalog Editor.
When you have finished editing, publish your changes to Shopify.
