This article describes the workflow for editing Product Catalog images. We'll cover the steps involved, from applying a template to publishing your updates to your Shopify store. Many of these steps are optional.

Essential steps

  1. Use the editing features to make changes (see Recommended steps and Optional steps, below).

Recommended steps

When editing, we recommend that you complete the sections in the Shopify side bar as a minimum (Variants is optional):

  1. Select Shopify if the Shopify sidebar does not display automatically.

  2. Make sure your product has at least 6 images. To add images, you can:

  3. Set a Title and description. Enter them manually or use AI to generate them for you.

See Change a product title or description (Web App).

  4. Set SEO and metadata for your product images (SEO-friendly filenames and Alt text). Again, enter them manually or generate with AI.

See Edit SEO and metadata for Product Catalog images (Web App).

  5. [Optional] Associate images with any Variants that you added in Shopify.

See Apply an image to a Shopify variant (Web App).

  6. Use Listing score to make sure your listing is as complete as possible.

See Listing score for Product Catalog.

Optional steps

You can use the other editor settings to make changes to your product images. These are optional, so will depend on what you want to acheive.

  1. Use Templates to apply a template for quick, consistent styling.

See Apply a template to Product Catalog images (Web App).

  2. Use Resize to change the size of your product images.

See Resize Product Catalog images (Web App).

  3. Use Position to change the image alignment and padding.

See Change positioning and padding of Product Catalog images (Web App).

  4. Change the Background of your product images.

See Edit backgrounds for Product Catalog images (Web App).

  5. Apply AI Shadows to create a sense of depth and realism.

See Apply AI Shadows to Product Catalog images (Web App).

  6. Use AI shot list to generate studio-style product images.

See Generate product images with AI shot list (Web App).

  7. Use AI tools to generate customized versions of your product images, including virtual model, recolored, and ghost mannequin shots.

    See:

  8. Add images to your product listings by uploading photos, selecting assets or designs, or generating images with AI.

  9. Use the main Photoroom editor to edit individual images.

The main editor includes features not available in the Product Catalog Editor. These include options for adding text, graphics, and changing layer settings like brightness and blur effects.

When you have finished:

  1. Publish the product image updates to Shopify.

Publishing keeps Photoroom and Shopify in sync and updates your product images in your store.

Important: Edits only appear in your Shopify store after you publish them.
