If your product has variants in Shopify, you can assign a specific image to each variant in Photoroom. For example, each color variant can have its own image.

Important: You must create variants in Shopify before assigning images in Photoroom. Variants cannot be created in Photoroom.

Steps (Web App)

To associate an image with a variant:

Note: This article assumes you have already connected Photoroom to your Shopify store.

In Photoroom, open your Product Catalog and select the product you want to edit.
Select Variants in the Shopify sidebar.

If you can't see the sidebar, select Shopify to open it.

Note: Steps 3-6 only apply if you have not already created variants for your selected product in Shopify.
Select Create Variants in Shopify.

Your Shopify admin console opens in another tab. Log in to Shopify, if required.
Create variants for your product, for example, you could create variants for each color that's available.

To learn how to create variants, see Adding variants in the official Shopify documentation. Make sure you Save your variants.
Refresh the Photoroom tab so that it gets the latest information from Shopify.
Select Variants in the Shopify sidebar.

You should now see an image box for each variant that you created in Shopify. If you don't see any variants, go back to your Shopify admin console and make sure the variants are in place and saved. Refresh the Photoroom tab again.
Select the image icon next to a variant.
Select an image for the variant. You can:
- Upload a new image to the product Assets
- Choose an image from the existing Assets
- Select one of your Designs in the Space
- Generate a variant image by using an AI Tool.
Select Add to listing if you chose an existing image or design.
Repeat steps 7-9 for each variant.
Select the back arrow next to Variants to return to the Shopify settings.
When you're finished, publish your changes to Shopify.

Note: Photoroom generates SEO filenames and alt text for your variant images automatically. To edit them, select SEO & metadata in the Shopify sidebar. You can edit them manually or use the Generate options, see Edit SEO and metadata for Product Catalog images (Web App).

Troubleshooting

If you don't see your variants in Photoroom:

Make sure you created them and saved them in Shopify.
Refresh the browser tab that shows Photoroom.
If you see Create variants in Shopify, select it and then create the variants in Shopify.
