How to use AI Scenes

How to use AI Scenes to create images with AI-generated backgrounds and enhanced foregrounds.

C
Written by Craig Wright

AI Scenes is a tool for creating more realistic AI-generated backgrounds, where Photoroom:

  • Focuses on background generation

  • Relights the foreground image

  • Adds small elements to cover parts of the image to increase realism, such as water splashing over a product

  • Makes no changes to the position, angle, zoom, or aspect ratio (unless specifically asked to)

How it works:

  1. You provide a source image or choose one that's already in Photoroom.

  2. You use the AI Scenes prompt to describe what you want to create.

  3. Photoroom generates an image based on the source image and prompt.

  4. You can then use the generated image as is or you can open it in the main editor to make further changes. You can also generate variations, if needed.

For step-by-step instructions, see Workflows in Related content (below).

How is AI Scenes different from other background tools?

AI Scenes is designed to be a more cautious background tool. It changes the background and only makes minor changes to the foreground for added realism. It also avoids introducing human elements such as people and touching hands.

The following table shows a comparison of the main AI tools for changing backgrounds in Photoroom:

Ways to access AI Scenes

AI Scenes is available:

  • As a standalone tool (from AI tools)

  • From AI tools in Batch

  • From AI tools in Photoroom for Shopify.

Settings for AI Scenes

The AI Scenes tool has the following settings:

  • Source image

  • Prompt.

The settings are explained in the sections below.

Source image

AI Scenes needs a source image to use as a starting point. Depending on where you accessed the AI tool, you can:

  • Upload a photo

  • Select from recent uploads or AI-generated images

  • Choose a product image that already exists in Photoroom

  • Take a photo and upload it (mobile only)

  • Use an AI tool to generate a product image (mobile only)

  • Select an image in a Batch

  • Select a product image in the Product editor (integration, such as Photoroom for Shopify).

To learn about adding images, see:

Prompt

Use the prompt field to enter a description of the image you want Photoroom to create.

Context menu settings

Each generated image has a context menu that contains options for working further with the image. For example, there are options for creating variations and generating a video (depending on the Space subscription).

The context menu settings are common to all AI tools. You can learn about them in Context menu options for AI tools.

Review and edit settings

When you are ready to use an AI image, select it to display the review and edit settings. From here, you can download the image to use, make final changes, or open it in the main editor to make manual changes such as add text or graphics.

The review and edit settings are common to all standalone AI tools. You can learn about them in Review and edit an AI image.
