Learn how to use Photoroom's Remove Background feature

Photoroom can quickly remove the background from your photos. You can then choose to replace the background or set it to be transparent.


On iPhone and iPad

To remove a background from a photo on iPhone and iPad:

  1. On the Create page, select Start from photo or Remove Background.

  2. Choose a photo from your device or select Camera to take a new photo.

    Photoroom removes the background of the photo automatically.

    Tip: You can use the Cutout feature to refine the edges of the remaining parts of the photo. To learn more, see How to use Assisted Cutout on mobile devices.

  3. Select a template.

    You need to choose a template so that your image has a background. For an empty background, choose the Transparent template. Alternatively, choose from the wide range of templates available.

  4. Select the Export.​

  5. On the Export page, use the options to save or share your design and then select Done.

    Photoroom saves your image to Your Designs on the Your Content page.

If you edit a photo, Photoroom will save your changes automatically. If you only remove the background, you will need to select Export and Done to save it.


On Android

To remove a background from a photo on an Android device:

  1. On the Create page, select Start from Photo or Remove Background.

  2. Choose a photo from your device or select Camera to take a new photo.

    Photoroom removes the background of the photo automatically.

On Web App

To use the Web App to remove the background of a photo:

  1. On the Create page, drag-and-drop an image into the box. Alternatively, click the + Select a photo button and choose a photo from your computer.


    Photoroom removes the background of the photo automatically.

  2. Choose a template and then select Apply new template.

    You need to choose a template so that your image has a background. For an empty background, choose the Transparent template. Alternatively, choose from the wide range of templates available.

  3. Select Download to download a local copy of your image.

  4. Select Back.

    Photoroom saves your image to Designs in the Your Content section.
