Photoroom's Edit with AI lets you make changes to an image by using natural language in a prompt. You describe the changes you want and Photoroom's AI generates a new image to match your request.

Edit with AI used to change a model's expression from serious to smiling.

There are two ways to use Edit with AI:

  • Upload an image and use the standalone Edit with AI tool to make changes

  • Use the Edit with AI in-editor feature while making changes to an existing or newly created design.

It works in a similar way in both workflows. In this article, we provide a general overview of the tool and explain its settings. For step-by-step instructions, see Workflows in Related content (below).

Availability

  • All platforms

  • Requires paid subscription

  • Requires AI credits.

Ways to access Edit with AI

There are several ways to access Edit with AI:

  • As a standalone tool from the AI tools menu

  • From the AI tools menu in a Batch of images

  • From the AI tools menu in the product catalog editor

  • From the context menu of an image that was generated by an AI tool

  • From the Review and edit screen of the standalone Edit with AI tool

  • In the main editor, below the image you are editing. Here, the field is called Describe an edit, but it works in a similar way to Edit with AI.

Settings for Edit with AI

Edit with AI has these settings:

  • Source image

  • Quality

  • Size (aspect ratio)

  • Brand style

  • Prompt.

Note: The availability of these settings varies depending on where you are using the Edit with AI tool.

Source image

Edit with AI needs a source image to use as a starting point. Depending on where you accessed the AI tool, you can:

  • Upload a photo

  • Select from recent uploads or AI generated images

  • Choose an image that already exists in Photoroom

  • Take a photo and upload it (mobile only)

  • Use an AI tool to generate an image (mobile only)

  • Select an image in a Batch

  • Select a product image in the Product editor (integration, such as Photoroom for Shopify).

To learn about adding images, see:

Quality

The Quality setting affects image resolution, detail, AI credit usage, and how long the image takes to generate. For details, see Set the Quality of AI images.

Aspect ratio

This is sometimes labeled as Size. Use it to set the aspect ratio (shape) of the image, see Set the Aspect Ratio of AI images.

Brand (or Brand style)

Use to control whether the Brand description influences the AI when it generates your images. For details, see Control the influence of the Brand description.

Prompt

Use the prompt field to describe the changes you want, for example, "Change the model's top from red to yellow and make the model smile".

For tips on writing prompts, see Write more effective prompts for AI.

After generating an image

When you have generated an image you are happy with, you can:

  • Use the image's context menu options to make further changes or download the image.

  • Select the image to review and edit it further.

  • Use the Batch editor to make further changes (Batch editor only)

  • Use the Product catalog editor to make further changes and publish (Photoroom for Shopify only).

The context menu settings are common to most AI tools. You can learn about them in Context menu options for AI tools.

The review and edit options are common to most standalone AI tools and you can learn about them in Review and edit an AI image.
